I think my ds (8yo) has decent handwriting on wide ruled notebook paper. His scale is a bit off sometimes. However, we did start cursive because I think improvements in one will help with iprovements in the other. Plus, it keeps things interesting. I've mostly free printable worksheets from www.kidzone.ws (DLTK) and he's done really well so far. I also found a Houghton-Mifflin 3rd grade workbook ebook online for free. Of course, YMMV.
Mamaraby-do you have a link to the ebook? Thanks!

Use code SUMMER to save an extra 10% ;)
I tried the code and it's not valid.

I also changed my plans after going to a used curriculum sale. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the stuff I bought works for my dd. I didn't spend a ton of money so I won't feel too bad if it doesn't but then I will have to buy more.

There are also these options from Scholastic - most of them are on sale at the moment for $1-3 in ebook form. i bought the 3rd and 5th grade Success with Maps books for $1, I like them better than the Evan-Moor daily Geography for my oldest. I may try the daily geography next year after we do this one.

Tracey,
Do you feel The Success with Maps books are enough for a whole year?

I'm very sorry. It's so difficult to lose a family pet.

Dd is currently working through this http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-complete-book-of-grammar-and-punctuation-grades-3-4-school-specialty-publishing/1018131979?cm_mmc=googlepla-_-book-_-q000000633-_-9780769643328&cm_mmca2=pla&ean=9780769643328&isbn=9780769643328&r=1 and it does include diagramming.

We use the Wordly Wise online edition. Dd likes it okay so I'm not sure if we will use it again next year.

Is the teacher's guide necessary for Just Write?

We used Lesson Pathways for science in 1st and 2nd grade.

I print one weeks worth of lessons at a time and then put them in a binder at the end of the week.

Dd has used Daily Language Review and Daily Geography Practice since 1st grade. She likes them and they get done with no complaints.

I'm so sorry. My heart goes out to you and your family.

My library carries the Harcourt science textbooks but they're referrence books so I can't check them out. Maybe your library carries them as well so you can peruse them. I also picked one up really cheap at a thrift store.

I second Math Mammoth.

My dd used it for K. She really liked it and finished k and 1st grade in one year. However, I didn't feel it was meaty enough.

http://www.lessonpathways.com/Pathways/Detail/7164/year-k-science-guided-journey It's free and easy to use.

Ours is also working. DD really liked it in the beginning and zoomed through the 3rd grade level. She's currently working through the 4th grade level and finds it more difficult and less enjoyable. I think it's very thorough program and prefer it over a workbook.

www.lessonpathways.com is free for all subjects and covers PreK-5th grade. www.theheadoftheclass.com is another free site that covers PreK-5th and includes even more subjects than the first site.

We use WWE without FLL as well. I tried FLL with DD and she couldn't stand it.
