  1. Hi

My Grade 6 ds has done Right Start Math And Jump Math. I would like to start Singapore Math but would greatly appreciate some advice first.

    1. Looking at the placement he would most likely start at 5B. So would this put him behind his grade level?

    2. How long does each book take to complete?

    3. what do you use after 6B?

    4. Do I need the textbook, workbook and the instructor guide?

    5. Which edition do we use esp since we're in Canada?

    Thank you very much

  2. Hi,

My kids will be starting their Grade 6 and 8 next month. I would like to use Galore Park's English with them, but not sure which level to choose. Can someone please guide me to the appropriate books to use for this grade.

    Thank you

  3. Hi,

We will be using saxon's kindergarten math. I just need the bear counters to complete the kit. I can however, only get hold of bear counters that come in 6 colours (Canada). Does it really matter if I use the six coloured ones instead of the four coloured bears?

    Thanks

  4. Hi

Can anyone please recommend any good kindergarten workbook that could be done almost independently when I'm busy teaching the others? I would prefer something that would have lots of cut and paste activities, mazes, puzzles, chose the odd one, differences etc.

    Thank you

  5. Hi,

I would like to know more info Saxon Kindergarten Math. The Homeschool Kit comes along with both the Teacher`s Manual and Meeting Book. These books have a publication date of 1994. Then there is the Saxon K Workbooks that are now sold separately with the publication date of 2007. Can these workbooks be used with the 1994 Teacher's Manual? Or is there a newly revised teacher's manual that goes along with the workbooks?

    Thank you

  6. Hi,

I would greatly appreciate advice with regards to my ds who turned six in Sep.

My older two children began reading at about 5 and it happened quite easily. I do understand that each children learns differently( that is one of the wonderful reason why I choose to homeschool), and that boys esp could take longer to learn to read.

My ds really wants to learn to read and even complains that I am not teaching him enough. He knows the alphabet sounds, and knows how to blend. We have used 100EZ lessons but skipped to phonics pathways. He tends to read the words from back to front and he becomes so greatly frustrated when he can't get it right and starts crying and then says that he hates reading. We hardly even go through five words and it is still too hard for him.

Another concern is that he still can't count properly beyond 6...he always misses a couple of numbers- and that is only to number ten. I tried using rightstart math level A with him...but can't recognize anything beyond 5.

He loves writing...sometimes he will just sit with a library book copying down paragraphs in his notebook or he writes pages of his own invented writing. He is also crafty.

Could he have developmental delay or is he still too young to worry about? What can I do?

    Thank you

  7. Hi

Like one other member mentioned,if you sign in on the teacherfilebox, and open Evan Moor's website you can print all those that are being sold as e-pages. It's a great bargain. The homeschool buyers co-op have a $70 deal for the year subscription till next month.

  8. Hi

In a previous post I had requested a reading curriculum choice, and was advised Sonlight reading.

I would like to use it for my grade 2 however, I needed some clarification on the reading schedule guide. On Sonlight's website they mention each by grade level. However, when browsing on the net or Ebay I came across intermediate and advanced levels for grade 2. How do I choose the correct level? I dont see other levels on Sonlight's website...or maybe I'mm just missing it??

    Thanks

  9. Hi

I am looking around for a grade 2 curriculum- basically just reading and comprehension type thing. I was looking at Houghton Mifflin Reading or Scott Foresman Reading but still not sure. Can anyone suggest something else please or their experience with the above two mentioned?

    Thanks

  10. Hi

I would appreciate some advice from those using Calvert homeschool curriculum.I purchased a 2nd hand grade 4 calvert curriculum for next yr. It is a 2002 edition. Having compared the books to the current curriculum there doesnt seem to be much change.

However, I was just wondering about the Geography. In my curriculum package I received the Calvert Geography workbook( the preview on the website is the same to this old edition), and the Hammond atlas. The current edition has Maps, globes and Graphs included to the curriculum. So I was just wondering how both the books fit in the curriculum? Any advice would gladly be appreciated.

    Thank You
