  1. What is anyone on this thread finding helpful, to help with this social skills deficit, black and white rules, lack of respect for adults in charge??

my daughter is a good kid, and has been a tough child to learn about, because for so long she was unable to even express her emotions, and to this day, her processing is so slow, that i may not hear an entire story about an incident, for A WEEK....(used to be months and months...)...I've given the school and all of her teachers hand-outs to help them understand how an aspie thinks, the six characteristics of asperger's syndrome, six strategies for preventing problems rather than reacting to them, and last but not least...lol...things to do when you find yourself in the middle of a meltdown crisis..

any input would be a blessing

  2. i've also requested that her special ed teacher be present to help diffuse the upset with her, and help her understand.. if her special ed teacher isn't available to help her process any of these situations, that i be contacted either via phone, or to be there in person. None of that happened....no principle, no special ed teacher, and no phone call to me...

  3. this teaches her no skills to help her with the "next" time. I have a hard time even gettting her to process these types of situations, to even wrap MY head around them to understand and help her, because i'm "not" there. She has an IEP, and we've put a positive behavior plan in place, and have come up with a reward system for her outside of the school. I've also given them written notice that whenever she is taken to the office for discipline, that she be talked to by the principle, it used to be the VP, and she was so sarcastic, that my child doesn't understand that type of talk, and would answer rhetorical questions,

  4. OK, first of all, don't let me mislead you, i don't condone talking back to adults, we experience this same thing here at home, and we try to teach her with each of these instances, "how" she could've reacted differently, kind of like a social story. I feel like there was an opportunity to have given her the proper responses, in some of these matters, but they just choose to give her detention, she's been suspended, etc. and

  5. anyways, from there, the rest of the class had already gotten out their work, and as my daughter is opening her binder to get her work out, she notices her math paper, in which she had been working on through her lunch time, that she had forgotten to put her name on it. So, she proceeds to put her name on it, and gets yelled at by the teacher to bring her math paper up to her desk, that she isn't supposed to be working on any other work, from any other class.....so, i can just imagine this is like a volcano getting ready to erupt...my daughter says she was just writing her "name" on the paper, the teacher responds that she doesn't care, to bring the paper up to her. so, my daughter takes her the paper, and the teacher looks at it, and places it in her desk..my daughter asks for the paper back, in which the teacher responds....NO WAY...you don't get it back....so from there, she's written up for early after school detention for insubordination.

  6. it just so happens that the janitors had cleaned the room, and her desk wasn't "in line" where it normally was, however, it WAS her desk, where she was told to sit..which she proceeds to do...then the teacher is on her to move to another desk, in which my daughter argues WITH the teacher..(it's awful, i KNOW..)..that she is in HER seat..so, it was a recipe for disaster..i don't know why the teacher didn't just have her "move" HER desk, back in the row, instead of expecting her to transition to another seat

  7. I'm having so much trouble with our school system even understanding this diagnosis. She is high-functioning, and because of that, she's mainstreamed in the general education classes. One of our biggest problems is that NONE of these general education teachers have special education training, so I feel like my daughter isn't dealt with properly, when an instance arises..for example, she goes to her science class, and she sits in the back of the room, (she was moved to the back of the room, in the hopes that she wouldn't begin her day, turned around in her desk, TALKING, and getting yelled at from the get-go..)..

  8. Hi All!!!

I'm new to this forum, and found it simply out of exasperation. I have a 12 yr old daughter that's been diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's....I DO believe that we've actually been dealing with the Asperger aspect of this from the get-go, and obtained an incorrect diagnosis.
