Part 1 of my reply - it was too long!

I have a Nano, and one kid has a Touch. We're both addicted to them. :) So far so good, though it has to be said that for now the touch is mostly used for watching videos (via the iTunes store).

For carschooling I intend to get some more of the David Attenborough-type movies. We also have a Kindle app (and another similar reader app) and they're actually not bad for reading - one of my kids prefers a white font on black background, and that is an available setting on the Kindle app, which is useful.
