  1. It's been awhile since I posted & I can't figure the search out so I will ask and either I'll get answers or links...either way, great!

Does anyone have a routine posted in their house for how the day flows....or a schedule of some sort.

    For example 9-12 school

    12-1 lunch

    1-??....free time

    5-7 dinner & family time

Anything like this? Does it help? Do you stick to it? Do you schedule reading time..TV time...play time?

  2. Thanks for all the suggestions, especially the ones who don't "limit". That's kind of what I was thinking. We've all been sick with one thing or the other since before Christmas, and we've just gotten into a really bad habit with it. We just have to retrain out of it, plus summer will be here soon, and then the thing only gets turned on every once in awhile.

  3. Does anyone here limit TV time? I was wondering if anyone has in place, a system, such as if you do X, Y and Z, you get 30 minutes of TV today..or something similar.

My boys are 10, and I think we've just started down a bad a track where the TV is the center and not enough reading and relaxing activities. They don't sit and watch for hours, and both are competitive gymnasts, so physical activity isn't what they are lacking, but I just don't think we've had enough focus on educational activities, outside of getting school books done.

  4. We just bought our lefty a left handed pair of scissors and here is why

When a lefty uses "univeral" scissors, they can't see where they are lining up their scissors. The top blade is in the way unlike a right handed person. He kept saying I can't see where I'm cutting and well, we looked at it from his point of view and well he was right. We got them on Amazon. He can use right handed ones, but prefers his lefty ones when he is home and working on projects

  5. Yes, I get that. My problem is the class doesn't even do anything. The kids can't even kick up in to a handstand let alone point their toes while doing it. She DOES, and I want to make sure she is in a class to make sure she develops good form because she goes there, does nothing, then comes home and starts flipping all over the place.

Flipping all over the place.....even after 3 hrs of practice mine comes home and continues to flip all over the place...LOL. Best of luck!!! Something of interest though you may want to see if it is coming to your town is the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions

  6. Thanks. I don't want to sound like a no it all. It just seems weird. No she is a teen. Maybe looks young for her age but no way she's not in highschool. Not saying they are not capable....but I'm paying for this and it is not cheap!

I think I'm going to call and leave another message and just plain ask if someone can help me evaluate the right place for her. There just doesn't seem to ever be anyone who can tell me anything LOL.

I would definetly do that! You may search USAG and see if there is a gym that is a member of that in your area.

  7. Anyone ever do this...I'm sure they have, does it work? Trying to get rid of monotony for my husband who carries out the day to day school.

Every M, T, W, Th- MUS, reading, & literature guide (memoria press)

Latin, spelling, art, music & pe worked in on their days

The other things do in a rotation of weeks:

1st week- WWE & FLL each day

    2nd week- History each day

    3rd week- Science each day

    Repeat rotation

  8. Our gym has a website where you can see based on age & skill where the child should be placed BUT, there are some classes you can't take until you've been "asked" to move up to them. Generally, you have to start at the bottom then move up the chain. How many classes have you been to?

Even my son was put in a very low level class initially, he could do standing back tucks and series of back handsprings, from being in competitive cheer, but they put him in a gymnastics class with kids didn't know how to do cartwheel. We moved up after a few weeks. It was tough watching that class for sure!!

Some of it is based on skill, some on age/maturity & then dedication. Once you move up to teams, it's a whole new game too.

  9. Is your child growing normally?

On Sept. 28th, families throughout the world will be sending emails, posting to groups, putting up posters, handing out flyers....about the importance of keeping track of their child's growth. It is a monumental effort, but together we will change children's lives!

Why is children's growth so important?

Children's growth (how much they grow each year) is a major indicator of their overall health. If they are growing at least 2 inches each year (after the age of 2 and before puberty) it is a strong sign that they are healthy. If they are NOT growing this bare minimum, it can be an early warning sign of underlying health issues such as disease, tumors, nutritional problems, hormone imbalances or unidentified syndromes. Paying attention to those height markers made on walls by parents, and the growth charts at the physicians offices gives crucial information for catching problems in their early stages.

Many people do not realize the importance of this simple information. Consequentally children may struggle for years with an unhealthy body or serious problem which can be treated.

  10. I thought my boys would never "read". I kept comparing them to my friends' children (mostly girls) who were reading Harry Potter at 7 and Magic School bus at 5.

You know what, they are 9 3/4 now and and devouring books, and at 9 1/2 they still couldn't "read".

It comes, patience, persistance and for us, reading longer novels to them (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Mr Popper's Penguins type books), and giving them Frog & Toad over and over again. And over night, it seems it has just clicked.

They have always looked and tried to read, but got frustrated easily, and now they will ask for help with a word.

Also find books for boys' interest, this has been huge in opening them up to reading:

Best of luck...it will come promise

  11. I see these statements with most of my public school mom friends about 2 weeks after school has let out for summer, and a few days into winter/spring breaks "can't wait for them to go back", then the "celebrations" when school starts.

I've been on the ps side for a few short months, I cried the first day and after every long break. I can't imagine saying "I want to be away from my kids!" And these are the very same parents who can't understand why their kids don't want to be around them, well if you've told them for years you want to be away from them, eventually they get the message.

I travel for work. I'm often gone 3 days a week, 2 or 3 weeks a month, so I get plenty of "breaks". Not a one of them do I enjoy. I have people who tell me how lucky I am to get these "breaks" :001_huh: Really? I miss the smiles, the hugs, the kisses, that's supposed to be a happy thing? It's the sacrifice I make so the twins can be homeschooled. Definitely not an action to get away from kids, hubby, family, the dog ect.
