And content-wise these would be okay for an 8yo? That's the thing that has me most concerned – I don't want to recommend something that is going to traumatize him or have themes that are inappropriate for his age.

What non-fiction about ancient Greece/Rome would you recommend for an 8yo who reads/comprehends at an 8th grade level? How about general literature (great if it's set in that era as well but not as important)?
