Does anyone have any experience with the CC Challenge Program? Would it need to be supplemented in any way?

Hi There,
I ordered Cycle One materials very early Friday morning. I ordered everything which was expensive. We are doing this at home with my UG and Dialectic students. I wanted to be able to get through both Cycle One and Two before next year so they could enter into the Challenge next year at a location. As of this morning it still had not shipped. I received an email on Friday making sure I understood I was ordering Cycle One since they were in Cycle Two. I replied yes and they said it would ship out on Friday afternoon. I called this morning and they said it was going this morning. It still has not. The money came out of my account on Friday. Just wondering if this is normal? I certainly don't want to call again and bug them but I have not ever had a company take this long to ship out an order. It was a huge sacrifice for me to spend that many dollars. I was hoping to get started next week. Does anyone have any experience ordering from the company directly?

I have not done it with their resources. However, we did do it with Elemental Science and loved it. She wrote it to follow the WTM and it was great. Very thorough and everything I loved about the WTM all laid out. I did have to purchase a microscope and the Biology supplies but it was well worth it.

We actually really liked it. My kids were way too old for the targeted age range. 3rd and 5th grade. Boy and girl. I did not find it to be geared more toward girls than boys.
I wanted something light to use as a quick study. I wanted something I could beef up if I had time but if were in a crunch I could just use as is. I wanted something that I did not have to put a lot of brain work into because I wanted to complete it and do so in a timely manner. It was perfect.
I added in History Pockets to beef it up and to use for any hands on projects. The hands on projects included are geared for the younger crowd.
I added in a nice sticker set for the states that included state flags. We really enjoyed the state study part. We recently traveled on vacation to several different states and they remembered several things we discussed.
I added in field trips where I could and it was really nice. We live near some Indian mounds and my son really loved it and it brought that part of the study more to life. It is also sparked a love for archery in him that he might not have been introduced to.
I thought the book choices were nice. We did the read alouds as a family so we could all participate even though they could have read them independently. The other scheduled books they read by themselves.
All in all it was exactly what I wanted. We do the four year history cycle but I wanted something simple in between. It was great.

I would like to know as well. I am seriously looking at it for my child who hated all those worksheets and the baby feel of K-3 Saxon.

Does anyone know what level in RS Math my DD would need to complete in order to transfer right into Saxon Alg. 1/2? I tried looking on the website and I couldn't find it.

VP has a two week trial for the Self Paced HIstory Course. So you could have him try and see if he likes it. We are trying out the Ancient Egypt and so far I am VERY impressed.

Do you guys know if the self paced course covers the Bible course as well? I see if I look at the grade levels they have separate history and bible courses. But I am hoping they combined them on the self paced courses.

My MIL really wants to take us but it is very expensive. Does anyone know of a discount code or homeschooling discount? I know most theaters and museums in our area offer us discounts with our letter of intent.

We did and we loved it! It was very planned out. Open and go for me. All experiments were itmes we already had and easy to do. Plus, it had nature walks added in. I enjoyed it very much. It did a great job of covering the basic topics.

Wow! I am so thankful for ya'lls great wisdom. I think it is safe to say VfCR is out. I will stick with CE 1&2 through the middle years. I have naively never heard of Sadlier before Crimson mentioned it. So off to research it. So much to think about for high school.

Caesar's is what should would be using. The whole MCT curriculum is just so enjoyable. Do you know if you continue with their Vocab series through to the end if it is as good as Classical? My oldest dd is in college and comes across this daily so I really want this dd to prepared.

It does make it tough on planning. But this program is so great. He is really flourishing so we will definately wait it out. I think I will hold off on AAS until we complete AAR1. That way if we have to wait awhile we can do AAS over the summer (we do year round). Then we will just be reviewing until AAR.

Hi There!
Has anyone used/compared MCT's Vocab with Classical Roots? I have an upcoming 5th grader and trying to plan our logic stage. We are currently using the MCT language Arts and love it. However, we use it along with WWE and FLL. They just blend so nicely.
What I am not sure about is...
1. Are the middle grades of MCT's vocab enough?
2. Could I combine both the MCT vocab and Classical Roots for a thourough program like we do with the others? Or would that be over kill?
3. Just use Classical?

You make a great point and it can still be a great trip. I just really have the same feeling as you about making all arrangements and something will change. I REALLY want to hear Susan speak again before she takes her sabbatical from speaking. I could use her wisdom and encouragemnet from both her Second Time Around and Teaching the Difficult child(she used the longer title). I have an 8 year old son who absoultely despises school and is throwing me for a loop. My other dd is headed into middle school so much to glean for this time.
I hope everything works out for both of us! And you could catch up with an old friend. That is priceless!

Yes! I was there! But that did not feel like a conference but a group of friends. Not overwhelming at all. I get very anxious in crazy situations. That was a great way to do it. Too bad we couldn't have one of those every year. It would be great to meet up with you again. My daughter is very excited about the trip so I hate to say no to her.

I was really excited about being able to attend the Conneticut Conference. But given the recent threads I am a little nervous. I will be driving up from Georgia. We have relatives and friends to stay with along the way so I will only have to pay for the conference hotel. My college age dd and I are visting several schools along the way.
I am beyond thrilled to be able to hear Susan, Marcia Sommerville, and Michael Clay Thompson, all in the same venue. But...I have never attended a conference and am not familiar with Hartford. I certainly do not want to add stress to the trip with conference drama.
Any experience? Advice? Anyone still planning to attend? If it matters I am of the Christian faith but that is not reason for attending. I am going to hear educational lectures and training. I do not want religions shoved in my face the whole time.

The Ga aquarium also has really good homeschool days and worth the extra money. Very hands on. All the info is on their website.

We have absolutely loved this program. My son has thrived and it is so easy to use. We both look forward to it everyday. One of my all time favorite homeschooling materials. Success:D

What do you all plan on using after Grade 6? Will you continue on with her Pre-Algebra or switch to something else? I will not be comfortable teaching after Level 6 unless it is very teacher friendly.

I was a little overwhelmed at first also. The more the time you spend looking at it the easier it gets. I divided mine up with subject dividers for the three main sections. I love how it covers physical and spiritual attributes as well. Very thourough. So glad you like it.

in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges

Can someone tell me what the final updated word on Saxon Math Homeschool being Common Core? I know originally the homeschool books were not. I just want to make sure that is still the case before I purchase them new vs. used. I am looking at 7/6 and 8/7.
