Tohru
I'm trying to decide if The Story of Art by Gombrich is better than the Child's History of Art series by Hillyer. I have Hillyer, but I don't think it's very interesting. Maybe it's the writing style that bothers me. Has any one used Gombrich? Is it better than Hillyer in content and style? TIA! Dee in MI
I see Hillyer as mid to late elementary and Story of Art (Gombrich) as middle school to high school. Yes, Gombrich is more engaging and well written. It's still in print, and you can probably find it at a Barnes and Noble if you'd like to get a look at it. There are lots of used copies, but get the most recent copy you can, because the printing and placement of the artwork has improved.
