Best ACT prep books?

I know this has been asked before, but I'm not finding it on the new boards.

 

My son is going to take the ACT this spring for the first time. What prep books do you recommend? I want him to at least have a practice test so that he knows what to expect.

Our favorites were:

The Real ACT and

Cracking the ACT

Our public library had quite a few. (We used Real ACT & Cracking the ACT the most, but Kaplan's, Peterson's, etc. are also helpful.)

 

It is helpful to get the most recent editions, as there are periodic changes in the format. (Especially if the student plans to take the Writing Section of the ACT.)

 

There are quite a few strategies for coping with the SHORT time periods for each test (working quickly is just as important as knowing the answer, IMHO). Preparation truly improves the student's score.

I looked at quite a few but ended up getting "The Real ACT" from Amazon.com. It was the latest edition and had several practice tests in it. My son felt it prepared him pretty well for the test.

My son really benefited from Amsco's "Preparing for the ACT". They have one for math and science, and another for english and reading. He used the one for math and science as those are his weak areas.

We have just purchased the REAL ACT so we will try it soon. Great to hear feed back. I read many positive comments about it on Amazon.
