Sparrows-Song
My 6th grade son is wanting to do a year of Latin (in 7th grade) before beginning Spanish in 8th grade. I think it's because he has taken a 13 week Latin class through our church in the past, and enjoyed it. I don't know the first thing about Latin, so if we do it, I'll need to find a curriculum that's easy for me to teach. Is one year of Latin worth doing? Does this sound feasible? Can I have your thoughts? Thanks!
periwinkle
during 7th grade--The Phenomenon of Language: Tabula Latina. It is an older stand-alone introductory Latin workbook for middle school, but fabulous in my estimation, and really holds my boys' interest. My older son continued on to Henle after 7th, but middle ds chose not to...youngest ds will complete POL next year. My dh and I also require that they take a modern language in high school. Beth in Central TX
No, I wouldn't do just one year of Latin. If you really want something to bridge you to Spanish, then I would recommend doing a Latin/Greek word roots program instead. There are many programs out there, but here are a few at Rainbow Resource: http://www.rainbowresource.com/search.php?sid=1204236787-738937 HTH! Beth in Central TX
That link doesn't work for some reason. Here are some individual titles: English from the Roots Up Word Roots by Critical Thinking Press Vocabulary Vine (http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/latin.htm)

Laura Corin
My boys learn one ancient and one modern language each, and will be adding another modern in middle school. I like Latin Prep, from Galore Park, for that age. The explanations are very clear and it's both fun and rigorous. Best wishes
