How many lit guides in a year for middle school kids?

I'm looking at some lit guides for next year for my will-be 6th and 7th graders (like Progeny Press). I'm trying to decide how many to do. Right now, I'm thinking 3 over the course of the year. Does that sound about right? We'll be using SL, which covers comprehension questions, but I want to do a few books more in-depth.

We use MFW, and they recommend 2 per year. It fits in nicely with their whole language arts program, allowing time for grammar, writing, other reading (we read a lot this year), spelling, copywork & dictation. Dd is finishing her 8th grade year, and we did 2 Lit guides this year. We could easily have thrown in one more. I plan to have her do one this summer. I will say, though, that since she is moving towards high school, the middle school lit guides have gotten pretty easy for her, so that might be partly why she can blow through them. I think a lot of it will also depend on how heavy the rest of your LA program would be.
