Found an incredible nature resource

I can hardly tear myself away from this site long enough to post. Imagine the nature section of RR on steroids! I went there looking for field guides and soon found that I "needed" bird call cds, a personal sound amplifier, etc. Then I found the "Natural Science Exploration" section of the catalogue (we really could use the animal track stamps), 40 or so pages of educational games and kits.

Acorn Naturalists -- these people are educators/consultants as well as vendors. The link is to the pdf of their catalogue.

Has anybody ordered from them?

I must be in a funny sort of Doran-mood, because when I read your subject line, I thought for sure you were going to say: "The OUTDOORS!"

I've actually been trying to find that website, so thank you. I had seen it a while back, and foolishly did not bookmark it. Very cool, huh?

LOVE THEM! When I got thier catalogue - request one right now - I spent two hours looking at it. I still dream about all the wonderful things I could teach and discover if I only had a nature center to stock and the money to buy everything. My kids used the catalogue to pick out thier Christmas gifts - yipee.

I see what you mean - I should have said "nature study resource.'

5 yo insists that she is going outside to "do nature." No matter how many times I gently correct and suggest that she is going to "nature study." She'll come up to me with a bug - "We should nature this." One of those cute things you want to write down so you never forget it. (This same 5 yo spent all afternoon outside with a ziploc bag, convinced she was going to catch a bird in it. There was no talking her out of the idea.)

Unfortunately, now that my kids are as old as they are (12.5 & 14.75 - heh) the phrase "do" has taken on an entirely new meaning. I don't want to hijack Alessandra's thread with trash talk, but last night I made the mistake of asking "Who did you do?" instead of "What did you do?" in front of my kids, and they could not retain their giggles. Good grief. So, go ahead and let her "do nature", because at least she's not "doing" nature. :001_rolleyes:

Not to further hijack the thread, but.... Alas. Girls are so much more sophisticated than boys. Mine are 17 & 12, and the mention of nature would actually evoke a different image in their minds. We just read a passage in a book about the Crusades where this crusty old knight leaves a meeting with the Doge and a cardinal at the call of nature. And we all know that when "Nature calls. No compromises!"

Enough with the trash talk. Let's all go outside!
