We used it this year with dd15 in the Illuminations program. It has been helpful so far, but we are behind a bit in Language Arts.

She hasn't been diagnosed, but I suspect that she is dysgraphic since she has had trouble writing from early on. At first it was just the physical act of writing, but as she got older, it became the writing process all together.

We have tried just about every writing program there is out there with the exception of IEW; I just know that would have frustrated her with the DVD's.

This program uses a lot of graphic organizers and for the first six weeks, the students do not do any formal writing at all. They just fill in graphic organizers. It takes the "fear" out of the writing process. It also takes a lot of that fear of the blank page away.

Slowly, they start building sentences, paragraphs and then essays; all with the use of organizers. It really is a unique system but complete. There isn't a lot of formatting which eliminates the worry of plagerism.

By the end of the program, the student should be able to compose a solid, essay of any length.

They introduce movie and book critiques, character analysis, history, etc.

You can actually get more information about the program if you join the yahoo group of illuminations. I believe it's MOHIlluminations.

It's called Foundations Writing Program. The program is less expensive if you buy it through Bright Ideas Press as well. You have to print off a lot of your own organizers since it all doesn't come in a fancy box, but all in a CD instead, but it saves you quite a bit of money.

Something you might want to check into! :001_smile:

Thanks for this review of the program. I've been looking into Illuminations but can't quite get a grip on Foundations Writing Program. I appreciate you taking the time to give this info and I'd love to hear from anyone else who has used it.

Thanks!
