stephanie
Ds10 and dd8 are almost done with LL book 1 and have done well with it. It does confuse me at times so I wouldn't mind a workbook format. I'm just not sure where to start if I did decide to switch? Assuming they complete LL book 1, should I start with LC1, LC2, LFC, or First Form Latin? I've posted on the LCC forum, but didn't get a response yet. Any takers?

You might go to the Memoria Press website, and see what LCII teaches. OR, you could likely go to First Form Latin I.

I would agree with Mama Lynx about starting in LCII. I am not familiar with LC as we did Lively Latin as well, but I did take a look at the table of contents of LCI and II and compared them with LLI. It looks to me that if you went with LCI it would be a review, as LLI covers all the same things and even covers a few topics in LCII. But, not everything in LCII is covered of course, so you may want to start there. I do highly recommend you studying alongside your children, especially if you are going to see the study of Latin through until highschool. I learned that there is just no way I could guide my daughter in her studies if I didn't know it myself. An easy way to do this is to just go through their books ahead of them. Or, if you do switch to MP, going through Henle yourself, with the MP syllabus would be a gentle way to start a self study. I went through Henle Unit 1 last fall and really enjoyed it. I just followed the MP syllabus and didn't feel stressed or like it was too much. Now, I'm studying Wheelocks! Yikes! I've been on chapters 3 and 4 for a whole month now. But it is rich and packed with all sorts of good things to learn. I also saw, as I was perusing the MP website, that they do have a little chart for placement. If you feel your kids have a good hold on what they learned in LLI, then I would move into LCII. If you feel they are confused or struggling, then LCI may be your choice, just move at a faster pace and skip the things they know for sure. HTH! Where are all the Latin gurus???:D
Virginia Heather
Stephanie, I'm in the very same boat and we're holding out for First Form. I almost bit the bullet and purchased LL2 b/c we have it enjoyed it, but when I saw the samples of First Form, I knew it was what I wanted. My understanding is this-- if latin studies will be a focal point of your curric. for the long haul, head to First Form (next year there will be a Second Form available, and so on). Skip right on over LC2 and enjoy! For what it's worth-- we're on the last lesson in LL1 right now. So we're stretching it out and reviewing lots. Soon we'll break for summer and hopefully by the time we're ready to start school in the fall, FF will be available. If it's not, perhaps I could grab the beta version, though I'd much prefer the *books.* The series is supposed to be ready by August... I sure hope they're right! Good luck! stephanie
Thank you all very much. After looking at the website I came to the conclusion that I would most likely start with First Form. I just wanted to hear first hand what everyone had thought. Drew also answered me on the LCC forum so I was very grateful. Thanks again!
