siloam
If you used it did you like it? Is it easier than Homer A? (It looks easier, no grammar from what I can see, but I have just glanced at it.) It seems the Poetry levels don't get the press (good or bad) the base levels do. Heather
HiddenJewel
Heather, will you please stop tempting me!!! :) Urgh!!! I would love to use it with my oldest dd but her schedule is so packed trying to finish the regular books that I don't dare.
Beth in Central TX
My boys have completed Poetry for Beg A & B. They thoroughly enjoyed & preferred it over Homer anyday. Here is a review I did on Poetry for Beg in March 2008: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16410&highlight=poetry+beg Let me know if you have any specific questions. I plan to continue with Intermediate Poetry next year with CW Diogenes Maxim. HTH!
chai
We've completed Beginning Poetry A. It is definitely easier than Homer! It was a nice break in the middle of Homer A, though I was concerned that dd would forget everthing that she had learned in Homer. (She remembered quite well; I was the one who needed a refresher!) I think that we were supposed to continue to do some grammar analysis and diagramming, but it didn't happen. I really like what we've seen of the CW poetry program. I never learned any of it in all of my schooling; so it was more of a challenge for me to teach it. DD loved it. She did well with poetry analysis and she was able to use imitation to write poetry. By the end, she wanted to completely ditch the imitation and just write poetry from scratch. The CW workbooks don't really allow for that, but I let her take off and do her own thing. Then I made her analyze her own poems to see if she had followed the forms correctly. We will continue with CW poetry in future years, but I am thinking about making two breaks for poetry--one around December and the other at the end of the year. The 13-week break in the middle of our school year felt too long. (And right about now, we could use a little lighter work.)
siloam
(((Hugs))) If you are anything like me it isn't just that your dd can't do it, it is that you can't either! :D Maybe the next one? ;) Heather
siloam
Beth, Thanks! That gave me the shove I needed to push the purchase button. I actually already have the Core book and the TG for A (which I bought used), but it just dawned on me this morning I don't have the student book. Seriously how did I forget that, when I need it in a couple of weeks? In ordering the level A student guide I was going to order the level B material too, and suddenly when the total was approaching $100 I thought, "But what if I don't' like it?" Funny how those emotions creep up on you. :) Heather
siloam
Donelda, I am thinking about breaking it up as well. Homer is just getting more intense and it seems to me that if I could alternate them it might give her an easier week then a hard one (depending on if she finds the poetry difficult to do). It would also give me a break because I think the Poetry is going to be what gives me the headache, at first. I am as green as you were. Homer I think I finally have down. :D Thanks for the help! elegantlion
We started poetry after finishing Aesop B this year. We are week 5 and I really love the depth of this program. We will probably do one more week and then save the rest to help break up Homer next year. A good rhyming dictionary would come in handy if you don't already own one. Karenciavo
 Two thumbs way up for CW Poetry.
amyco
So can you start Poetry for Beginners before you do Homer, after Aesop? Do you have to have completed Aesop before you start? I really like the idea of breaking it up into two parts. I am trying to get my daughter thru Homer by the end of 6th grade or not too long after that, and so we probably won't be able to complete PforB part B until she gets to Diogenes, but that's okay, right? Thanks!!
