KJB
from a young (adult) woman with talent but no degree? I don't think I should pay as much as I pay for our highly educated piano teacher, but I want to pay well so this young woman feels appreciated. She's asked that I decide on "what's fair" and I'm not sure?
Julie in CA
I pay our extremely well-qualified piano teacher $38 per hour. I think I'd probably offer $20-$25 per drawing lesson. More if the teacher has to do any weekly prep, or has any transportation costs.
KJB
Another question. She has never taught before. She's willing (and excited) to try taking on a student. Does this impact your suggestion? Thanks! Edited April 22, 2009 by KJB (btw, in related artsy questions oh Julie of the delicious desserts, why did my cheesecake crack? LOL)
FO4UR
I think $25/hr sounds reasonable. It depends really upon how good she is at teaching your dc to draw. You are paying for her expertise, not her education or time.

joannqn
For perspective.... My daughter is taking group drawing classes at Open Arts Studio. There are 3 kids (ages 8-14) in her current 6-week session. Each class is 1 1/2 hours and all supplies are provided. The cost is $97 per session. This is the homeschool class. Their regular classes (same class but in the evening) are $130.
