I don't know why, but I can't determine the difference between The Complete Writer:Writing with Ease Instructor Text and The Complete Writer: Writing with Ease Workbook 1

Do you need both?

What is the difference between the two?

thanks

The Instructor's Text explains how to teach writing to all of the grade levels.

The workbooks have daily exercises and lessons for one grade level, all laid out in order so you can open and go.

You don't need both. I'm only using the workbook for my kid's grade level. I haven't even cracked open the Instructor's Text. (I just have heard this question answered before.)

If you want the whole thing done for you, just open and go - get the workbook.

If you want to choose your own passages for copywork/narration, get the textbook.

I have the text book, and SWB gives a few weeks for examples, and then explains what to look for in passages. I am choosing my own passages, but am highly tempted to get a workbook now that I've begun:tongue_smilie:

Thanks so much. That really clarifies it for me. I don't know why I was having such a hard time understanding the difference.

I'm going to get the workbook. It seems like such a great way to teach a child how to write. My son has great difficulty getting it out of his head and onto the paper. He can do it verbally, but writing it is tough. I know this is going to be great for him.

I'm also considering the Story of the World book (the first one). How did your kids like those? Did anyone get the complete package? I definitely prefer an open and go type of book and will supplement what I think is important or interesting.

I have to tell you, someone from another message board advised me to get the Well-Trained Mind, and boy what a lifesaver when you're just starting.

Ok, thanks again for answering. Oh those smilies over on the right ----> are begging me to put them on here, but I don't know how!!!!
