AngieW in Texas
My oldest is in 9th grade. SL Core 100 for history and literature, but NOT writing US History-based Writing Lessons from IEW Hake Grammar 8th grade - my dd just finished it last week, a holdover from 8th grade Word Roots cd-rom Jacobs Geometry Prentice Hall Biology (but I'm looking for something easier that still covers everything we need) self-made health course For the self-made health course, I've had my dd read and take notes from Food and Nutrition for Dummies and Take Charge of Your Child's Health. She had to do a food pyramid project where she figured out her ideal diet according to the pyramid and then had to enter all the foods she ate every day for two weeks at the food pyramid website to see how she did. Now she has started Dr. Weil's 8 Weeks to Optimum Health. That will take 8 weeks and then I figure she will have finished a one semester course in health. He'll probably do math at home with his dad again, and Bible here, too. I want him to have history, government, physics or some other science, and a really good English class. I may have him take two classes at high school--we can do this in VA, but they must be core classes. If he took a composition class and a literature class, I'd be happy. We'll see! Guest Katia
Well, I have three dc with two currently in high school. Honestly, I don't remember what curriculum my oldest used for what subjects, sorry. I'll try to just hit the highlights of what the girls are using/have used, but we tend to use several texts and work between them. Math Saxon Algebra I and II Teaching Textbooks Algebra I and II Teaching Textbooks Geometry Life of Fred Advanced Algebra English Lightning Literature: Early and Late American Early and Late British Shakespeare Comedy and Tragedy World Lit I Vocabulary for the High School Student Vocabulary for the College Bound Student Joy of Vocabulary Wordsmith Craftsman Jensen's Format Writing Writers, Inc. Editor in Chief C1 and C2 LLATL American Lit Science Rainbow Science Science Matters Apologia: Biology/Advanced Biology Conceptual Chemistry History Medieval History-my own with the help of Hewitt's Honors Syllabus AOP Lifepacs: Civics/Geography/American History/Government/Economics Foreign Language Learnables French 1-4 Barron's French the Easy Way Amsco French Readers French in Action levels 1 and 2 Rosetta Stone Japanese Japanese the Easy Way Let's Learn: Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji Pimsleur Japanese I Henle Latin 1 and 2 MODG Syllabus Computer Applications AOP Computer Literacy: Word/Windows/Power Point Logic Traditional Logic I The Fallacy Detective Thinking Toolbox There is a lot more that we use, but I can't think of them all off the top of my head. I know we read a book for lit analysis, and one for writing (Skrunk and White?) and one for poetry, but the titles escape me. We also add a lot of literature or other books to the history. I'm thinking of dropping the AOP for my youngest next year and using Hewitt's new American History program. Wish I had done that for my other dd, but one of the subjects had to be a 'box check' and it ended up to be history since we had done so much of it in-depth in the lower grades. We also do a Bible course each year, but we use so many different books, I just don't think it would be profitable to list them, unless someone specifically needs me to. Add to this list Music/Instrument lessons from outside teachers and Drama/Theatre from co-op. Hmmm. I'm sure I'm missing something else but this will have to do for now.
