Can anyone give me insights onto how thorough the teacher's editions are in regard to teaching the concepts? Is there a "lesson" section my kids and I would do together prior to the worksheets? I also saw Easy Writing, and it looked like something we could use...practice punctuation. It looks like a program on how to form various types of sentences rather than complete writing assignments, which is what I am looking for.

I love Easy Grammar. It's very simple to use. The Teacher's book is pretty much the same as the student's with a few extras. It does teach the student well. They have the lesson in their book, just like the TM, but the TM does have the answers and a few other suggestions/hints from time to time too.

Easy Writing is just what you said it is...practice writing sentences. It's an all in one thing that I have. On the same page where the child would be writing their sentences, it's teaches the concept. For example, it will teach them how to combine two sentences with compound subjects. It will have two or more sentences, then some lines underneath to where the child would have to rewrite to combine them into one sentence. It gives plenty of examples and explains it very easily. Actually, I'm about to sell mine...the binding is already cut. I've had it a few years.

Easy Writing is a good supplement to any other writing instruction. You choose the things your dc need to practice and do just those--in any order; IOW, you don't start at the beginning and do a certain number of exercises each day or anything. So if your dc tends to write all sentences with subject/verb construction, you might choose some assignments from EW that are on beginning sentences with dependent clauses.

Also, the author encourages you to have your dc embellish the sentences he writes, so it can become more than just writing sentences.

There are two sections: easier and more difficult. You choose which ones your dc will do. Also, it's expected that you will make photocopies of each page instead of having the dc write in the book, but if you're absolutely sure you will never, ever in this lifetime have the reason to use a page again, then go ahead and let your dc write in it.:)
