Aubrey
Dh has been called about an outside sales position--selling credit card processing services to auto fleet companies. I tend to be a real pessimist about these kinds of things, erring on the side of believing they're all mlm scams. Dh, otoh, is such an optimist that he even clicks on the "Own your own computer & make $10,000/wk from home ads." Between the 2 of us, we can't tell if the auto fleet cc thing is a good idea or not. 1. There's no fee. That's the #1 thing for me. 2. They have training & give their sales guys business cards. The big deal here is, they're investing in the guys they hire. If it costs them something & us nothing, it's more likely to be real, kwim? 3. They say they don't have a guy in FW & that there are over 6,000 of these companies here. I'm not sure I believe this, but one of my concerns is that these fleet co's are going out of bus in this economy, so there might not be much business. Dh says no matter how many are going out of business, 6,000+:1 is a pretty good ratio. 4. There hasn't been much in the way of interviewing. I mean, a guy called & talked to dh for a few mins & told him to call another # & listen to a recording about the business. Then there's online training, & then there's another "conversation" that dh says is like an interview. But from what he says, the job is his *now* if he wants it. What do you think? There are benefits, too, standard, he says, but...it still sounds fishy to me. He thinks it's either commission-only or the greater of either $3000/mo or commission-only. Big difference, but the phone was dying during that part of the conversation, & he didn't want to ask her to repeat it. Obviously we'll have to find out, but I tend to think it's the former rather than the latter, since it's a set-your-own schedule kind of job. Thanks! Tap
Have you searched the BBB to see if there are complaints against the company? If they pay a wage and or benefits...it would make me think it is more legit. If it is commission only....I would be more sceptical. Does he have ANY outlay for the company? JFSinIL
My gut feeling is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Does your hubby have any sales experience that would make him attractive to a legitimate company? Otherwise I fear a bait and switch - they get him all excited and business cards etc. then, wham, when he feels committed they ask for training fees or something. I am skeptical. Can you ask the local Better Business Bureau about this company???

BBB has 5 complaints against them, all resolved, all having to do w/ salesmen making representations that were incomplete, exaggerated, etc.

Can you ask the local Better Business Bureau about this company??? Dh does have some sales experience, from working corporate accts for a computer place to basic retail. ETA: LOL--I can't imagine a grown man getting that excited over business cards! All I meant was that it cost them something to hire new guys, so it makes it look a *little* more legit, maybe. Aubrey
bump Dh was offered 3 jobs today. A PT job that pays $10/hr, a FT temp job that pays just over $9 (but is research here at the seminary, & so probably important to go ahead & do), & this. Whatever happens, though, at least he's finally getting call-backs.

Can you ask the local Better Business Bureau about this company??? Wow. Looks like you were right. In the Fed Ex pkg that contained his business cards, there was also all the legal stuff. No benefits. Dh emailed a guy about it, & the guy said it's an independent thing, no benefits, & the recruiter is *completely* aware of that. I think the bold-faced lie is what gets me more than anything. Esp since that's what's on their BBB record. Resolved, yes. But it kind-of looks like a bad habit, huh? Misprepresenting stuff & "fixing" it if someone catches them? Or have I been watching too many conspiracy movies, i.e. CNN: Enron.
