Ellie
Ok, so last month, after the doctor said I was "overmedicated" and that I should watch out for symptoms such as "continued" weight loss :confused::confused: the physician's assistant (PA) ordered the more comprehensive tests; she also wrote a one-month script to keep me going until the results came in. The next week I got a call saying that I should continue with my current dosage. What??? I said, "Is the PA going to write me another script?" She says, "Oh, do you need her to?" Duh. She says she'll call it in. Today I called the PA and asked if the script had been called in. Her assistant says, "You didn't ask us to." What???? I regret that I was not as sweetness and light as I might have been. She said she'd call one in. Is it just me, or does it seem as if someone who has been on thyroid meds for over 10 years shouldn't have to remind her doctor or his lovely assistant that THE REASON MY LABS COME BACK NORMAL IS THAT I'M TAKING MEDS AND YOU NEED TO CALL IN ANOTHER PRESCRIPTION??? I'm going to find another doctor. I don't know where to begin, but I HAVE HAD IT. Rant over.

I am surprised that you are not on automated refills.
Veritaserum
How frustrating! :glare: I just started thyroid meds and I feel soooooo much better. I hope you find a great new doc!
yslek
:glare: (A sympathetic glare for you.) That sounds so frustrating. You'd think they'd know that a sudden stopping of thyroid medication is a bad idea. :glare: You might try using this site to help you find a new Dr.: http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/ I found a fabulous Doctor via this website. She actually listened to me and was willing to give me a trial of thyroid meds in spite of normal lab results, since I have a host of hypothyroid symptoms and a slightly enlarged thyroid gland. I've only been on the meds for 2 days...can't wait to feel better! Hope you find a better doc soon.
MgoBlue
I know some clinics are frustrating. My husband had a similar experience with a PA with his diabetes...then we found out our insurance doesn't cover PA's at ALL...so we had to pay $115. of which would have otherwise been cut down to like $65 by blue cross had it been an allowable expense. (and they'd have paid 80% since our deductible was met!). The PA told him to take 20 units of insulin & he woke up in the middle of the night with a blood sugar of like 40! Felt all crappy & stuff...had a bunch of stuff to increase his blood sugar. scary. Called their office & they said to take 18 units...duh...that's still too much! I'm leary of PA's after this experience. I also had a thyroid disaster when I went to a holistic dr...a DO...that did $300 in blood work, prescribed armour thryoid...I was jittery & my blood pressure & pulse were up(was at the gastroentereologist & they confirmed it)...and the holistic doc said "take half a pill". Now that's scientific! I went back to the generic syntharoid & cancelled the next $135 blue cross allowable charge to the holistic doc. That doc was just too expensive! I'm frustrated with drs & trying to stay away. The gastro wanted to do a colonoscopy ... based on anemia blood results from the holistic doc...the fam dr agreed I'm not anemic...grrrr...frustrating. Hope you get it straightened out. Paula
Ellie
Complain and find another office. Were you having continued weight loss? I don't remember your story. I am surprised that you are not on automated refills. Not only am I not have any weight loss whatsoever, I had gained 5lb in the last six months.:glare: See, the doctor wants me to come in every six months to be rechecked. This was the six-month check-up. After I nag him (or the PA), then I get a prescription that's good for six months, and I have to start all over again. The doctor and the PA are also completely flummoxed that my cholesterol (which we know can be affected by low thyroid) stays low because I do Atkins. After six months on a low-fat, high carb diet, my cholesterol was over 300; two months after going back to Atkins, it was down 100 points (and my good cholesterol is over twice as high as normal). My med people cannot grasp this; we have interesting discussions.:glare: But it's the thyroid issues that bug me the most. I'm now on a quest to find someone new. Can't decide whether I should go to a naturapath or an endrochrinologis.

LG Gone Wild
, prescribed armour thryoid...I was jittery & my blood pressure & pulse were up(was at the gastroentereologist & they confirmed it)...and the holistic doc said "take half a pill". Now that's scientific! I went back to the generic syntharoid Me too. My dr. wanted me to try something similar to armour because I was exhibiting hypothryroidism despite normal labs. She called it subclinical Hashimotos. She had recommended Synthroid. I said no way in hell. I took that stuff and it was like poison. Like my Levoxythyrine, thank you. So she said to try a combo like armour or a mix of Levoxyl and Cytomel..that made me nuts too...moody, headachy, and a racing pulse. I redosed myself and then went back to my old meds altogether.
