Michelle T
I remember Schoolhouse Rock with great fondness, as I'm sure most of you "ladies of a certain age" do. I see that Amazon has the complete collection for $14.99 and I'm wondering if this might be a fun way for DS to get some practice with parts of speech, history, etc. Do any of your kids like SR? Or is the dated, early 70's style animation too out of date for today's kids? Michelle T
King Alfred Academy
Is it the 30 year anniversary one? We got it from the library and my boys 4 & 7 loved it! I may have to get a copy! dirty ethel rackham
One year, my sister gave the dvd to every member of the family. It was a hoot for the grown ups. My kids loved it. The p.s. nieces and nephews thought it was cheesy (but they were also at the age that anything their parents thought was cool was definitely lame.) We have the cd's and have listened to them in the car. DD loves the Interjections one.
Guest
Absolutely LOVE it here!!! My kids watched it to death. I am going to be buying another copy. They know all the songs by heart practically. HIGHLY SUGGEST BUYING IT!!!!
WTMindy
but, they don't get to watch too much TV. :-)
Surfside Academy
My boys loved it! They actually learned a lot from the songs about the American Revolution.
godpoetry
My kids love it still, and they are 12, 10, and 3 yrs old.
Audrey
I loved those cartoons when I was a kid, but you know what? They never showed them in Canada, so my dh had no clue! I got the 30th Anniversary compilation DVD's and not only does my ds8 love them, so does my dh. Ds can sing his way through all the grammar and math easily, but his fave is Interplanet Janet... she's a galaxy girl. ;)
Jeanne in MN
They watched it a few times and there a few they watched repeatedly-my 8 yo boys at the time loved The Great American Melting Pot. :) What is kind of neat, though, when they forget what an adjective is and I say, "He was a hairy bear, he was a scary bear, we got out of his lair." (The adjectives one is *my* favorite.) There are a few songs on SR that I didn't know existed like Mr. Morton (i like that one too) and the Prepositions song. I think the 30th anniversary edition SR songs are classics and well worth having.

OhM
Dd10 just asked for it again the other day (when we started the adverb chapter in R&S). We had the entire cd set from the library a couple years ago and she and dd13 loved it.

Vanna
We have the multiplication Rock CD (it's been very helpful). Occasionally we get the Grammar Rock CD and the Best of SHR video from the library. My kids are still very young (10yo and under).
Susie in CA
We have used a lot of the History ones. My kids love those. This is how we memorized the Preamble to the constitution. Another favorite is 'The Bill.' Susie
Chris in VA
We have the Grammar Rock computer program, and wish they had a game with all the cartoons on it! It's a lot of fun.
Holly IN
We bought the completed set (DVD). Kids love love love it!! My dh and I love it too (we did when we were younger) It is a big hit at our house. Holly
Kelli in TN
Yes, absolutely!! My kids have been known to choose that when allowed to pick a video to watch, even though I bought the set to incorporate into school! I came home from somewhere one night and found my husband and two of my kids eating popcorn, watching Schoolhouse Rock and singing along. jg_puppy
My dd doesn't like them at all, but I am hoping my son who loves music will like them. Jan
plansrme
Now I'll have "I'm just a bill, yes, I'm only a bill. . ." running through my head. All. Day. Long. Thanks for that.:o Terri
Kay in Cal
Hey Michelle... my ds's love it, though they are younger than yours... I just think it's cool that another generation will learn to sing the preamble to the same tune I did!
Tracey in TX
Yes, my kids like Schoolhouse Rock. Mind you, Hannah Montana is preferred, but are willing to watch an educational show...and eventually enjoy it :)
Alisa
Hello! I have a ds7,ds10 and dd12 and they all love school house rock. I think they enjoy it not just for its own intrinsic value but because mom enjoys it so much! We have had a lot of fun watching them together and have been know to break into song when one of the concepts come up in our schooling (or any other time). Kristen in NC
We have the set. My younger son (he's almost 6) loves them especially. He likes music more than my other kids. The older kids (9 and 8) like them ok, but I don't know that they pick it out to watch given a choice.

Lizzie in Ma
Not true, the kids adore it too, we especially love the History Rock ones. I bought them on dvd and for the kids leapsters. Just doesn't get any better. http://www.school-house-rock.com/
Strawberry Queen
I just watched some today with dd. You kind of have to watch though, as there was one that was the MAD TV video of school house rock noun-talked of crackheads and stuff. But, the regular SHR videos are there. gardenschooler
"He was a hairy bear, he was a scary bear, we got out of his lair." (The adjectives one is *my* favorite.) It just doesn't get any better than that, does it? It makes me all teary-eyed, remembering my childhood. We got the 30th anniversary edition from Netflix over the Christmas break, and while I knew my dd9 would love it, I didn't expect my dd13 to be just as enthralled! Of course I had to tell them about 'back in the day' when we had educational little ditties between our cartoons. And the "Unpack your Adjectives" was their absolute favorite. We still sing it! I really need to own that DVD.
Antonia
The theater was sold out, so I know there are lots of kids who still like this.
Jennifer in NH
My kids 7 and 5 love it! The 5 year old will watch "Mr. Morton" over and over again! We have to play that one first or all I hear is...when will Mr. Morton be on! When I first asked them if they knew what a noun was, i got an "of course!" and then the song! I am so very glad we own this! They still ask for it.
