Loupelou
I could have sworn I had seen this come up in another thread but I couldn't locate it:tongue_smilie: I will be using SL 100 next year but I am looking for a U.S. History spine or spines along the lines of SOTW to supplement and use with my younger children. I decided that I have way too many to do more than one core! Any ideas? I am looking for something on their level(K-3) with additional reading and activities. SL 100 uses Joy Hakim's A History of US. I do not like CHOW, so I doubt I would like the U.S. history either. If there isn't anything you know of that covers all of that how about a spine(s) & supplements you used with?:)
Amy in KS
How about the Your Story Hour CDs (the American Heritage Album comes to mind)? You could also look at the books from My Father's World Adventures. A spine appropriate for that age would be Children's Encyclopedia of American History
Amy in KS
How about Biblioplan? They have readings separated by ages. They include Hakim and then other readings for youngers (like If you Lived at the time of the Civil War). They also have activities and mapwork now. sagira
I really like The American Story: 100 True Tales from American History by Jennifer Armstrong. It gives a good overview in story form, and is IMO perfect for the little ones. I borrowed it from the library to check it out and wasn't able to put it down! I also like Mara Pratt's American History series. I'm going to be using both with Children's Encyclopedia of American History as reference with biographies and Maestro's books thrown in. julesmama3
Christian Liberty Press has a great book called American Pioneers and Patriots. You learn historical facts through fictional stories.
