happygrrl
My dd is pulling ahead of her older brother in MUS math (he has LD's and is behind for his age). The competition is undermining his confidence, so I am considering switching her (and maybe mathy ds2) to Singapore. I must confess, so much has been written about Singapore lately that I am intrigued! How easy is it to switch from a mastery program like MUS to Singapore? Am I too late? It seems like the scope and sequence are very different, but I know some of you supplement MUS with Singapore... how do you do this? TIA! happygrrl
Where is she in MUS and if you give her the placement tests for Singapore where does she place. I supplement by using CWP a couple of years behind so my son in Epsilon is doing CWP 3. He could probably be doing CWP 4 but I am cheep and I already had 3. Aha! You have helped me a great deal. I had not seen the placement tests, so will administer those today. She will soon finish Delta; I love the idea of using CWP a year or so behind. I'll look into this pronto! Thanks so very much! mo2
No help, but we're switching from MUS to Singapore also. We used Alpha this year, and I think I am going to start with Singapore 1B, judging from the placement tests. They just teach things so differently that even if we review a little bit, I think it will be a good thing.

mo2
If it is not too personal, why are you switching? Not personal at all. MUS is boring. Just a list of black-and-white problems on a worksheet. We're halfway through, and dd is SO TIRED of doing addition. I thought the blocks would make it fun, but they don't. Not for us anyway. She's not challenged to think, just to memorize the facts. (And while I do believe the facts need to be memorized, I also think that at her young age, she needs to be enjoying what she is doing.) While my LD son thrives on the repetition and lack of distraction, I suspect the others will enjoy the faster pace of Singapore.

Definitely. Every child is different. I suspect my son is going to need a completely different approach to almost everything in life, so my plans to reuse all the materials I've purchased for my daughter may or may not work out. cimhog
When I switched my D to Singapore, she just finished 5th grade. I gave her the placement test - she scored less than 50%. So I started her on 4th grade IP, CWP during the summer. Her math improved a lot after just one summer.
