Math for summer?

Hi there!

 

My DS is in first grade and will finish Singapore 1b (U.S. Edition) by the end of the school year. He is in ps and we "before school" during the school year, but summer is when we ramp up on homeschooling. I am considering what math to focus on with him over the summer.

 

So far, he has been able to move through 1a and 1b rather quickly during the school year. Does the pace tend to slow down with 2a/b? I could move on to 2a to get a little ahead, but I am wondering if we should pause and do IP 1b or CWP 1 over the summer. I haven't seen IP or CWP, just the samples on singaporemath.com. Thoughts? We'll also practice math facts, but I'd like to do more than just that.

I would probably use the CWP or IP. Or you could use some Math Mammoth worksheets. I use the Golden Series with my girls during the summers.

I don't think it would hurt to keep moving along into 2A. If your DS is doing great (and it sounds like he is) let him keep going. Too supplement, you could add fun worksheets or math games or projects together that use a lot of math.

I wasn't as impressed with the CWP for 1A-1B, but we loved the IP. The WB problems weren't hard, so DS sort of flew through them. The IP was what really helped DS think about what he needed to do to solve the problems.

Thanks for the responses. I like the math mammoth worksheets, I think I'll use the 2a workbook (add/subtract) for extra drill. Great deal for $4.50.

 

Still considering whether to use Singapore's 2a or IP 1b... Anyone else have any suggestions?
