Janna
We are having quite a few families over for Easter. All of a sudden, my yard has TONS of dandelions! It is very unsightly(sorry for those who don't mind weeds or thinks of them as flowers. I despise dandelions. Except for their green in which I love to eat). The weather is supposed to be nice and we are having an outdoor egg hunt for the 15 kids that will be here. Is there ANYTHING I can put on my yard to brown those puppies up so we can mow 'em down tomorrow afternoon? Dh and I are so not gifted with making lawns green and beautiful. All of our neighbors are though, which makes ours look extra hideous, LOL. Thanks. Edited April 10, 2009 by Janna
Crissy
Plain white vinegar. On a sunny day with a generous splash of vinegar on each dandelion plant, those things will be brown before the end of the day.

No! For real!? Does it kill them down to the root? Seriously!? I am astounded! And excited! What if it's not a sunny day?
CalicoKat
Dandelion Muffins. http://nurturedbylove.blogspot.com/2007/05/pass-weeds-please.html Sounds like you've got enough to bake ahead an put in the freezer..... or you could try Dandelion Jam, Dandelion Honey, Dandelion Wine for variety. :D  They've very good in salads too. Sounds like you've got a bumper crop.

It doesn't work so well if it's not sunny. It takes several days in that case. I haven't tried it, but I have read that heating the vinegar just before you pour/spray it will have the same rapid effect as direct sun. Be aware that it will also kill any grass that also gets splashed.
Snickerdoodle
Get a rabbit.
Wendi
Get a rabbit. Where do you live? I could pick up a handful of rabbits from the shelter, and swing by your yard. They would be happy to take care of those dandelions for you! (And leave behind some little round "surprises" for the egg-hunters this weekend!):001_smile: Wendi
JenneinCA
Could you hire the kids to pick them? Maybe give them a penny a flower? They might find it fun. My kids would.

Sorry, I'm no help, I'm one of "those"! :001_smile: I love dandelions (and clover, and crocuses, and forget-me-nots ) in my lawn... so pretty! See, it's also great free organic lawn care... Aerating lawn - dandelions (taproots) Fertilizing lawn - clover (nitrogen fixer) Okay, I know I'm not convincing you... :D Good luck! PS. I now also have organic insecticide - aka guinea fowl - they also do some fertilizing... Yes, I can never move to a subdivision....
