(She still doesn't love it, but she likes it now and is starting to really get it.) I really like how Singapore teaches things several different ways. Their number bonds have been especially helpful for us. We have not started multiplication yet, tonight we asked our daughter how much four 4's were, she said very quickly, "16." I said that that was great that she had figured that out because I had not taught her that yet. She replied "But, you have taught me that, you taught me 8 + 8!" I tried to explain how that was not obvious to some people, but just stopped after she looked at me like I was speaking Greek and said instead, "good job figuring that out." (She could not have done that even 2 or 3 months ago before our switch to Singapore.) Her understanding of math has grown a lot seeing things different ways. I had planned to switch to Singapore eventually, but after reading several posts here and reading Liping Ma's "Knowing and Understanding Elementary Math," we made the switch a little earlier than planned. We're going to do a bit of review this summer with Right Start math, something a bit more fun and a bit different, she lost a lot of math knowledge last summer. We're currently just doing the IP books for Singapore, they're cheap, a cheap option for people wanting to try out something different over the summer. My daughter really enjoys the challenging problems in the IP books. I may also buy Miquon and join the Singapore/RS/Miquon crowd! (OK, it's a small crowd, but I've noticed that it is growing.) FO4UR Posted April 9, 2009 Share Posted April 9, 2009 Welcome to the SM/RS/Mq crowd:lol::001_smile: I use SM for my main math, RS for games/abacus for explanations, and Miquon to supplement wherever I can. I think there is a great benefit to an eclectic approach. I have started gearing the RS stuff towards dd4 (ds6 plays too and gets review), and the SM stuff towards ds6 (dd4 listens in on the TB pages and picks up a whole lot), and I use Miquon whenever I find a page that teaches the concept from yet another angle.
