Sandy in KY
I have a rising 11th grader who wants to go into engineering. He will be in Trig/Pre-Cal next year. Our co-op finishes science at chemistry, so next year we are on our own. I know that I cannot effectively teach high school science, so I need a good physics curriculum that (ideally) will do the following: Suitable for independent learning Has a video component (this is a preference, not a necessity) Can be used later with younger siblings Challenging enough for a science major Any suggestions? TIA!
jellogirl
Apologia Physics fits the bill, at least according to me. It is so easy to study independently and makes so much sense. A companion cd is available with animated illustrations and additional demonstrations, or you can get the entire course on cd. It has prepared countless students for college physics. They also offer an advanced physics course which would probably be beneficial.
mcconnellboys
Also, Thinkwell or Teaching Company programming might provide additional helpful lectures for him to view. Some libraries carry some of this programming. Saxon has a physics program that is really just math-based, if you need extra math problems associated with physics. mktkcb
You might consider Kinetic Books physics, which has 3 levels (conceptual, regular hard, AP level), is online interactive plus comes with a printed text which is virtually the same as the online except it doesn't have the interactive component. These are very engaging courses. My 6th grader is doing their Algebra 1 this year, and it is working well. Anyway, check it out.... http://kineticbooks.com/index.html Kayleen
