elise1mds
Ohhh bless his poor heart. My son didn't want to wear his when he was 2, and he didn't have a concept of peers at that point. We had surgery and he doesn't have to wear them any more, but I can only imagine. I would try to reward him for wearing them for the first few weeks, starting with an hour a day and working your way up. After he's able to wear them the whole time he's supposed to, he'll probably be okay with it and notice a difference in how he feels, too. If you're friend with his friend's parents, I'd talk to them about the issue beforehand as well and see if they can make sure their kids are being sensitive about it. It'll be okay! Carrie12345
:grouphug: Aw. I feel badly for him. My 10yo has been wearing glasses since he was 4. His biggest problem has always been other kids wanting to try them on! At that age, some kids really do think glasses are cool. :)
dangermom
At that age, kids really do think they're cool. And glasses are so much cuter now that it's easier to be cool! My 5yo picked out her own purple frames and that helps.
BigMamaBird
First off :grouphug: for the little guy. I wore glasses as a child and other kids can be brutal. A few thoughts. My dd3.5 wears glasses and has a tizzy if we take them off. Her vision is 600/20 without and 20/20 with, so even at her age, she knows that life is better with the glasses. Maybe after wearing them a while he'll come to like them too. Also, we involved her in the process of choosing them. Of course you can't just let a 3 or 5 year old pick theirs all by themselves, but if they have a say in say two or three choices, it makes them seem like "their" glasses. And lastly, my friend has a 7 year old who they fitted with contacts! Seems pretty young to me, but I guess eye doctors are doing it earlier these days. So maybe you can dangle that as an incentive to care for his glasses properly and graduate to contacts when he's older and can care for those too. My dd will point out other kids and children in cartoons who also wear glasses and comment "they have glasses like me!" It's so much more common these days and the styles are much cooler, maybe it won't make him feel so very different.
