If you were going to self study Latin. . .

Hubby and I are using Getting Started With Latin. It's very easy, with short lessons. He introduces a new world and then there are 10 translation exercises in each lesson. Sometimes we will do several lessons in a sitting, but other days, when we are short on time, we can still squeeze in a lesson in about 15 minutes. When we are finished with that, I plan on using Lingva Latina and then perhaps Wheelocks. (I looked at Henle originally but prefer a secular text with classical pronunciation.)

I'm using Getting Started With Latin. My guys are in LfC A (actually, I liked GSWL so much, we've paused the LfC A and they're doing GSWL to help with their translation phobia) and I felt the same way.

I'll move onto something meatier after GSWL (I'm oogling Latin for the New Millenium, but it's pricey), but I don't know what.

The Yahoo Henle group was great--all my questions were answered by a real person :).

The book is very straight forward: learn vocab, use it by reading and translating. Learn some more vocab and grammar and then use it in more reading and translating. Easy, straight forward.

If you are not Catholic, you should know there are passages (especially at the beginning of the book) that refer to Mary and the Bible. Most folks who are not Catholic just shrug and keep going.
