hmsch4me
Both my 8th & 9th graders took the EXPLORE test this year instead of the basic IOWA, etc. It's supposed to help them prepare for college and prepare for the ACT. What's a good score on this?
Jenny in Florida
My kids have taken this as an out-of-level test through academic talent search programs, so their norms are a little different. However, the booklet I got with their scores shows the following as average scores for eighth graders who tested in the fall: English - 14.2 Math - 15.1 Reading - 13.8 Science - 15.9 Composite - 14.9 So, students who earned those scores did as well as or better than half the eighth graders who took that test at the same time. A "good score" will, of course, depend on your definition of good. But I hope that gives you some idea of what to look at. Here's a link to the publisher's website, too: http://actstudent.org/explore/score/compare.html
jellogirl
I have no first-hand experience with this test, but it should give you a percentile ranking. I usually consider the 95th or higher to be good, which means you scored higher than 95% of the students taking the test. Of course, it really depends on the student and don't freak out if your student is in the 89th. You have several years yet to work on skills.
