Christy B
1. Literature -- does the text explicitly teach literary analysis? (Plot, conflict, setting, etc). 2. Writing -- I know writing assignments are given, does it include instruction or are you on your own to figure out how to complete the assignment? 3. Vocabulary and grammar -- included at all? Thanks! Writing -- I know writing assignments are given, does it include instruction or are you on your own to figure out how to complete the assignment? No. 3. Vocabulary and grammar -- included at all? Yes, but on a very superficial level. Thanks! Hope that helps
Christy B
Oh, that does help, and despite your answers, it's still on my short list. :) I really, really want something that covers AS MUCH as possible between the two covers of one book. By the time I finish adding literary analysis, writing instruction, and vocabulary -- the "simplicity" of using Notgrass is kind of gone, kwim? Well, there's another reason to consider MFW high school -- they use Notgrass as their spine and add all of the above.

I really do know what you mean... this year my 9th and 10th graders both did Notgrass American, but in addition to reading (most of) the literature books, we're adding some lit guides, taking Home2Teach writing classes, doing Rod & Staff Grammar book 8, and the 10th grader, who is weak in vocab, is working through the Vocabulary for Achievement workbooks. Whew!
Christy B
Yes, I can see us ending up following down that path . . . in which case, I think it would be better (for us) to just use BJU History with LLATL Literature, you know? Then it would be two books for History and Lit instead of one book for history and lit -- PLUS writing, grammar, vocab . . . etc. Where's that application for re-enrollment? She went to school this year and survived, why did I tell her she could come home for high school?:tongue_smilie:
Sharon in MD
I am a little pressed for time, so I don't want to write a seperate resp.....sorry. You might want to look at the other Notgrass thread if you are not already following it. http://http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92274

Using lit guides -- that is a GREAT idea. In fact, wouldn't something like Total Language Plus give me lit, grammar, writing, etc? Now, that could be just the ticket. Thanks!
