laughing lioness
Uffdah is a colloquialism in these parts and one my 9 year old has recently been amusing us with. It's a basic catch-all expression meaning whatever you want it to mean- joy, frustration, happiness, irritation, etc. Saturday at dinner, for some still unknown reason, my 9 yo exclaimed, "Uffdah!" to which the 6 year old responded, "Uffdo, Uffdat, Uffdas, Uffdamus, Uffdatis, Uffdant" - stated clearly and with glowing smile:001_smile: Who knew you could conjugate Uffdah?? Stacey in MA
I had never heard the word before last year (I grew up on the east coast, spent much time in Ca, then back to the east coast). The kids learned a kiddie song at church from their mid-west-born youth leader and it goes "Pharoah, pharoah....whoa, baby, let my people go...UFFDAH....yah, sure, ya betcha!" (sung to the tune of Louis, Louis). I remember thinking - She MUST be making up this word!! Interesting to know that other people in the world are actually actively using this - in their own Latin version, no less! Thanks for sharing.... - Stacey in MA Edited April 6, 2009 by Stacey in MA type-o
elise1mds
The Pharaoh Pharaoh song! That was my first experience with uffdah until I started training for my job, when I had a report (while in training) where the doctor said it! I laughed and laughed. I never would have thought about conjugating it!
sleepy
I love it!:lol: I created a Latin verb for my dd14 (Megan) - mego, megare, megavi, megatus: to stall, to delay :tongue_smilie:
