Guest
Ancient World with a middle schooler? My oldest is using HO2 and hating it. He is finding it dry and boring. He is rather old for the tone of SOTW, though. Anyone have a plan they use? Thanks!
Melissa in Australia
I am using it with my 15 and 13 year old boys. I wouldn't use it with any younger than that .

EKS
This isn't a plan but a set of books--K12's Human Odyssey series is a world history for middle schoolers. It is fabulous. I just use the books without the K12 courses.
Sunshyne
My DS and I were beginning to think the same of HO2, but once I started adding some extra literature and taking time to do History WITH him, we really started to enjoy it more. HO2 lays a great foundation for outlining and cataloging information, but I think it takes just a bit of modification to make it a *great* program. We read TSOM as a read-aloud and mark up the book. We underline terms and facts and spend time discussing the information. I sometimes skip the summary sentences for Kingfisher, and we just discuss or write an actual summary. I love that HO2 has such a comprehensive list of topics, and I think most of the assignments are very good. If you can't find something else, maybe you'll find HO2 workable... oakmom
Did you purchase these books from K12? Are they available anywhere else? mcconnellboys
Yes, I've been using it with my fifth grade son this year. We read aloud from various history encyclopedias and other books on related history topics for the week. Then he reads the related chapters of SOTW on his own and outlines from at least one section of one chapter. I try to choose a section that doesn't include a story, just history facts. He's also doing the tests this year. He seems to enjoy it much more than narrating, LOL! He is writing on some history or lit topic each week, too. He can combine what he's learned from his readings and from our read alouds. This has taken the place of oral narration for us. I do have a schedule for the year, but it's really, really long, so I can't post it here. Just email me if you want it and I can email it to you. Also, I can't get it in one of their emails from this site due to their limits on length, so I'll need to email you directly if you want it. Hathersage
If you want to buy from K12 directly, I found the link with phone number to call and the prices.. http://www.k12.com/schooling_programs/k12_direct/human_odyssey/
MIch elle
I think SOTW series is best used in middle school! Look at Sonlight 6 & 7 or BiblioPlan 3 & 4 for middle school programs that use SOTW. We're using SL6 this year and plan to use BP 3 for gr. 7 next school yr.
Guest
How would you adapt Bibilioplan to make it secular? It seems from the samples to be pretty Bible heavy? Not trying to upset/offend anyone.
