kbpaulie
I've seen others post this question, but it seems like there are few answers that come through... I've looked at the Usborne First Encyclopedia of Our World and feel that this text is too simplified for my next year 2nd grade DS. I am looking for a recommendation of a different spine. (Not a purchased program like REAL Science, but rather a library type book.) FYI... We are planning on using Usborne Complete Book of Astronomy & Space to reaplce Usborne First Ency of Space. This seems like a better fit. And any other thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks- KB
Manamana
I've been considering alternative spines also for gr 2 earth science. I checked a book out of the library that I like called "Planet Earth" which is part of a Time Life student library series. "The Universe" (from the same series) is the other book I would use - I've just ordered it from Paperbackswap. I like the format of these books, real photos and more in-depth coverage of topics geared to 9-12 yr olds. They seem to cover most if not all the same topics. If all goes well, I'm planning to use them with Elemental Science lesson plans.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Any other ideas? Any thoughts on Usborne Internet Encylopedia of Planet Earth for 7 yo DS 2nd grade Earth Science? Haven't had a copy in my hand. Just thinking and browsing.
Manamana
Thanks for your welcome. I've been lurking for awhile but your post inspired me to respond because I've recently been searching for the same exact thing. I think I'll try to borrow the other Usborne book you mention. I do have the Usb. Astronomy and Space book from the library right now. It looks good but for some reason I liked the Time Life series format (less info on each page but more pages per topic area). I also saw the Kingfisher Young People's Book of Planet Earth (and similar title for Space) that also look like great options. These can be viewed on Amazon. Keep in touch and let me know your thoughts on any of these. Thanks. Vicki
