Danestress
I am so upset with myself I could just scream. I bought 2 pounds of beautiful fresh sea scallops today as a special treat for tomorrow night. This was a huge splurge for DH - scallops are his favorite. So they were tightly wrapped in waxed butcher paper, but I accidentally let them sit out at room temperature for several hours. Sigh. Can I cook them and eat them? Since they were well wrapped? Please?
Jen500
I wouldn't eat them....but go check out that rice thread. I just tend to err on the side of caution with some things.
Amy loves Bud
If they don't smell bad or feel slimy I would eat them. But I am Very Liberal when it comes to these things. Very. And I like scallops. A lot.
Danestress
Would that stop any bacterial action that might have started?
Amy loves Bud
I'd probably just put them in the fridge and cook them tomorrow, but I don't think it would hurt to rinse the fish. However, I haven't studied it so I may be way wrong and you could be really hurting by the next day. Comforting, aren't I? Like I said, I'm play pretty loose with the food poisoning rules, and we haven't been burned by it yet.
Danestress
and the looked, smelled and felt fresh and firm. I'm not sure if that really means they are okay. I can't find anything on the internet. I hate to throw away $25 worth of scallops, and I also hate to make anyone sick!
MamaT
I grew up on the bay in Florida picking up our own scallops. If they don't smell funny, they're okay. Go ahead and eat them.:001_smile:
