TammyinTN
Dad is deploying this summer and I need a great list of boy reads for this little man. We usually read an hour at night and I'm looking for some great read together stories/books for him. I want to get them ordered and here before he leaves in May...so if you have an eleven year old boy...tell me what he loves. :D Thanks bunches! MIch elle
We haven't started to read it yet but it looks GREAT with all the pictures/diagrams, maps, journal notes, letters and more. Jules Verne type of adventure but with lots of extras. There is another in the series and third due this month.

nmoira
The Underland Chronicles come to mind.DD the Elder has been raving about these all week. She's always got a book in her hand, but usually doesn't go off by herself to read them. We've hardly seen her.
daisychics
100 Cupboards N.D Wilson and Dandelion Fire We're reading Dandelion Fire now -- I use to read 1 hour but I find myself wanting to read out loud longer :D. We also borrowed the audio books from the library. The person reading it is great, since I'm not very good at changing my voice. They all end up sounding the same in the end. :glare::lol:
jenL
I'd suggest Hatchet or anything else by Gary Paulson. The Narnia series if he hasn't already read them would be excellent too.

SherryTX
My son loved reading the Harry Potter books (which ever ones were out) at that age. He also started reading Stephen King around 12 - don't worry - not talking about the gory ones - but books like "Eye of The Dragon". He also started reading books by Ben Bova, and recommends "Rock Rats". However, he stated that a mom dad may want to take a look at it first, because he isn't sure if all 11 year olds parents would want them to read it. He is also a huge fan of Lewis Carroll, the Alice in The Wonderland books, etc. Of course, his top choice is Edgar Allen Poe short stories. All my kids love him. Again, though, depending on your child, if you are not familiar with Poe, you may want to review his stories first, because they are definitely "gothic" and some parents don't like him. One other suggestion - my husband enjoyed reading several books by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan and other books about space travel etc) while growing up. I highly recommend Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine. I think this is a wonderful book. He also has several other books (Farenheit 451, Something Wicked This Way Comes, etc.) that are good. He also has numerous short stories. His collection in October Country are my favorite, and my kids like them too.

Staci in MO
My ds likes: Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr (series). The Inkheart series Percy Jackson and the Olympians series And, of course, Harry Potter and Narnia. Right now he's reading Veritas Press's abridged version of Robinson Crusoe and says it's the best book he's read all year.
