apCrazy4Jesus
If you have used both these programs which would you recommend more? What success have you seen with IEW Phonetic Zoo? Is one curriculum more teacher intense than the other? I have not heard much about Phonetic Zoo can you tell me about it? Thanks you very much, Adrienne

Lisa in the UP of MI
I don't know anything about Phonetic Zoo but I'm using AAS level 1 with my oldest and we both love it. It is teacher intensive in that I work with her for the whole time but we only work in short bursts. It takes about 10 minutes a day or closer to 15 mintues if we only do it 2 or 3 days a week. We are completing about one step per week but it is still review. I'm not sure how fast we'll move once we get into new material. If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to answer them. :)
Amber in AUS
That is really reassuring Lisa, great to hear your comment that you both love it. I am looking at this for my oldest also, she just can't stand ETC and I want to switch to something rules based anyway. Are you doing any other phonics instruction or is AAS it? I'm also using Happy Phonics, OPGTR, and some activities from Montessori Read and Write (a book about teaching reading and writing). We had just been reading the words from OPGTR on a magnadoodle or white board but within the past few days she has wanted to read sentences so we are going back to the beginning with those. Sometimes she spells the words from OPGTR instead of reading them, but the main point of these three is that she has practice reading where with AAS she is spelling. A little more info: I taught dd to segment words using Montessori Read and Write and we moved from there to spelling words with a movable alphabet (also in MRW). Everything in AAS and OPGTR so far has been review because of what she learned with MRW. We might have to slow down once we hit new material. King Alfred Academy
We have used AAS and I really like the program. I am piloting Phonetic Zoo for my charter school now. I have worked through a lesson on my own after watching the DVD Spelling and the Brain and the How-To and I like the approach. The auditory way of teaching spelling makes sense to me. I will be starting the program next week with my ds8. I will say, that it is not recommended until 3rd grade. Which is why I hesitated to use it...I have a second grader, but I am going to give it a shot. If it is too much for him, then we will stop. MerryAtHope
I haven't used Phonetic Zoo, but All About Spelling has helped us so much! I blogged about it. I hope you find what will help you! Merry :-)
In the Rain
I've not seen Phonetic Zoo, but I do use AAS. My 7yo learned to read with RME and now uses AAS. My 4.5yo loves AAS too. She can actually spell with the tiles faster than she can read the words. For her, I am not using the program as designed. I give her words to spell with the tiles and then she writes them on the white board. It is just for fun at this point. It is definitely teacher intensive, which I think is appropriate for such young children.
apCrazy4Jesus
It seems like AAS is a good choice. It is just so hard to buy used (probably because everyone is happy with it) and it is very expensive new (DH lost his job in November and it seems no one is hiring). Thank you all once again, Adrienne
