secular_mom
I really need to do some laundry, but it's looking pretty bad here. Will running the washer/dryer attract lightning?
Tutor
It won't attract lightening, but I wouldn't want to mess with a water/ electric combo during a thunderstorm. It's just too dangerous if there is a power surge, imo.
K&Rs Mom
I have never had a problem with it - we get some decent storms here, and our cable modem seems to attract lightning far more than any appliance.
secular_mom
Thanks! I guess our renter's insurance will cover any catastrophic damage, should the unlikely occur. :) I'm turning off my computer now.
Miss Sherry
When I was a kid we had a TV ruined by lightening. My husband had a computer ruined by lightening when we lived in Alabama years ago. I've never heard of a washing machine or dryer being ruined by lightening. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had one damaged by lightening. secular_mom
As soon as I turned off the computer, we had a constant steady stream of lightning and a REAL downpour of rain. I waited for that to pass before I turned on anything. The electricity kept blinking off and on for a while, so I guess it still would have taken just as long for the laundry to get done if I hadn't waited. :) I get so weary with all the tornado warnings, severe storms, etc.
