Joan in GE
For anyone who is or has prepared their student for the SAT II chemistry test... do you know where to find a list of the labs that would normally be demonstrated/ described for high school chemistry and therefore possibly tested? We have the SAT II chemistry prep book which has just a couple of examples... Thank you! Joan
Gwen in VA
No help here -- We took the lab-free approach to chemistry. My dd just studied chemistry and then worked through some prep books that had info about chem labs in them. She got a 760 on the exam, so doing labs is certainly not a prerequisite to doing reasonably well on the exam.
Brenda in MA
Joan, My son took the SAT2 Chemistry test as well. I don't recall there being any specific list of labs that are normally done. We did some labs at home, and we do have some basic lab glassware, but we don't have a lot of the specialty items. The prep books have pictures of the lab equipment that one might encounter in a typical lab, and I went over those with my son so he would know how they might be used in a lab. The only other thing I can recall about labs was that there are some flame test labs where you burn various chemicals and by noting the color of the flame, one can get an idea of what elements might be in the compound. The "results" of these flame tests were in the prep books, and ds just memorized those. HTH, Brenda
Joan in GE
you Gwen and Brenda. The info is reassuring... I was imagining them choosing out of a huge list of complicated experiments that would be impossible to understand if you hadn't watched or done them...
