Staci in MO
I'm looking at buying Bob Jones Life Science (7th grade) and 5th grade for next year, and I'm confused about what I need. Do I need to buy a separate activity manual? I'm getting the impression that it's included in the text, but I can't find anything that says that outright. How about the teacher's edition for the text? My degree is in pharmacy, so I have a science background. Do I need it? I also see where they sell a teacher's edition to the activity manual. Do I need this as well? Are the answers to the activity manual included in the teacher's edition for the textbook, or do you need both teacher's editions? Please help me understand this. Riverfront Headmistress
I have the 5th grade teacher's manual, student book, and activity pages. However, I only use the teacher's guide and student book; the activity pages were a waste of money for me.
3browneyedboys4me
I just don't see a good explanation about the various books? Thanks
TraceyS/FL
IN 7th the Labs and worksheets are in the Activity manual. No the answers to AM stuff is NOT in the regular teachers manual, they are in the AM TE. That TE also lists suggestions for alternatives for labs in the supply area. To the OP if you need the TE for hte text or not depends on how teacher driven you want the class to be and how much you need it laid out for you. If you go here, you can "see inside" the teachers edition and that should help! http://www.bjupress.com/product/243642?path=1351&samplePage=24#lookInside YOu can see that there is a small inset that is a copy of the student edition, then the outer edges are the teachers notes. I couldn't do the class without it (i'm using DVD though). I haven't used 5th grade, so i can't comment on it at all - except the classes are all very teacher driven instead of read and complete. AND, i see the issue. The 3rd edition has the activity inside the book vs separate like the version we are using with Homesat. Then i can't help on the answer part! LOL!!! But if you call BJU they are very helpful and will tell you in a few minutes.
KRG
We're using BJU Science 5. I have the TE, student text and workbook. We have not used the workbook since the beginning. The TE does not have the answers to the workbook. If you decide to use the workbook you probably would not need the workbook answer key. HollyDay
Honestly for 5th grade, you could certainly use only the student text and be fine. If you want to do all the experiments, then I would think you would need the TM. I also found the activity book to be a waste for 5th grade. 7th is another animal. I think you need everything. It is more involved and much more material to cover. I do not know about the dissection dvd. My gf bought it for 7th but did not use it until high school biology. Cant help you there. Pongo
Ok I'll bite.... So would you say you don't need the workbook for K-5th, that using the TM(if you want All the experiments) and the text is good. Then for 6th and up you should get the complete sets? Just wondering....I wish I had time to do EVERY SINGLE science on the market!
G5052
I wouldn't do it with just a student book. The background, experiments, and discussions in the TM are outstanding. There's a reduced view of the student book in the TM, so I actually did Science 3-5 with no student book. I read the student book out loud and we discussed it as we went. I liked the Activity Guide because I had my two work together apart from me on it, and then we discussed it. It's not a must, but it reinforced what we did and had them working together. I haven't used Science 7, so I don't know what to recommend there. YMMV...
