Aubrey
Do you watch LOST? Have you ever? Do you know how much literature is in the story line? Do you realize you'd *love* it? Whew. Had to get that out there.

DarlaS
(since she's working so hard on the LOGIC STAGE HISTORY and THINGS FOR HIGH SCHOOL...hint hint) Wasn't the follow-up book to The History of the Ancient World due out soon? My high schooler may not want to read it but I sure do! No pressure or anything :D.

Rosie_0801
Oh goodness. My dh sings about eggplants. Not really sure why, but at least that's G rated, unlike some of his ditties. He forgets other people are hearing... :) Rosie

mazakaal
I tried watching the first episode of Lost and the appeal for it was lost on me. What's with the monster-like thing that ate the pilot? Does the show get better after that first episode?

Does the show get better after that first episode? Yes! We actually started watching in the second season, and got the first season on DVD from the library. We're hooked. We even get the DVDs just to watch the behind-the-scenes stuff, bloopers, deleted scenes, etc...
melissel
I tried watching the first episode of Lost and the appeal for it was lost on me. What's with the monster-like thing that ate the pilot? Does the show get better after that first episode? Another YES! I started watching around the end of the first season and was SO confused by all the flashbacks etc. I couldn't ever figure out if I was watching reruns or seeing flashbacks. I gave up, but then started watching again at the beginning of the next season. I planned to just leave it on in the background while I worked or surfed or whatever, but I was totally mesmerized. About halfway through season 2, DH -- who kept rolling his eyes at me when I talked about it -- sat down to do the same thing, work or surf while he sat with me, and within two shows he was hooked too  If you give yourself a little time to get plugged into the characters and storyline, you won't be able to stop :D
mazakaal
If you give yourself a little time to get plugged into the characters and storyline, you won't be able to stop :D Hmmm. Maybe I should give it another chance. But, then again, do I really want to get myself hooked. I'm already hooked on NCIS. And this message board. Do I need another addiction? ;)

BikeBookBread
Every character is named with a very specific purpose in mind. Most are named after authors, or it is strongly hinted. For example, Charlotte S. Lewis -- C.S. Lewis. (She was the redhead with whom Dr. Farraday the physicist was in love -- got killed of a few weeks ago, but who knows if that's permanent on The Island!) :lurk5:

newbie
I have been watching since the beginning and never noticed the references til I became a part of "the group". And thank you for the enlightenment on CS Lewis. I am a dolt.

SWB doesn't have enough free time. We watch in less time by watching it online at abc.com. Plus if you get behind you can sit and watch more than one episode. Does the show get better after that first episode? Yes. After ep 1, I could take it or leave it. After ep 2, I was hooked. I've never been hooked by anything before. Ohio12
I mentioned on the boards a long time ago (I can't find it quickly) that I bet she DOES watch and she got on and said that she did not. Imagine my embarressment. But then I think since then I saw on her blog that she got all the DVDs and watched it. But I am not going to say for sure, because I am not sure. Also, Lost is a really really good show. here is a link to what I posted a year ago. it looks like someone ELSE said that she didn't watch it. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31292 Edited April 3, 2009 by Ohio12 found my link

He wasn't really interested, but now he's almost a bigger fan than I am (he reads the Lost forums, gets those books mentioned earlier, checks out the DVDs, etc...). We have some friends who watched one episode of Lost and decided they didn't like it because just one episode can be confusing. We convinced them that they need to go back to the beginning, and watch at least several episodes, then decide.
Storm Bay
This thread proves me correct--I purposely did NOT ever watch Lost because I was sure I'd like it and get totally sucked in. However, it's also piqued my interest. But I'm going to remain strong and stay away.

Susan Wise Bauer
OK, so here's the deal... No, I didn't watch it when it started. There ARE series that I watch no matter what. The Office and House, at the moment. But two series a week is way enough for me. :-) My dh got completely sucked in, though. He's been watching it with nail-chewing intensity. Because of the timing, I'm usually out of the house when it comes on, so he's been free to watch it without my presence. So I told him (now that he's in season XXX...I can't remember how far it's gotten) that I would watch it with him. He's got it on DVD and we're drawing to the end of the second season. And I find it entertaining. I occasionally say to him, "Hey, that's cool!" I sometimes think to myself, "That was clever!" But I'm not dying to find out what happens next and I don't watch it if he's not home...it's a RELATIONAL activity more than anything else. I'm not sure why this is, since other series (we are both Firefly geeks) have drawn us in equally. But there it is. SWB
WagsWife
(we are both Firefly geeks)SWB SOB! Every time I think about Firefly, I feel robbed! It was SUCH a fantastic show and I just want more, more, MORE!!
Colleen
There ARE series that I watch no matter what. The Office and House, at the moment. Would that be the original, British "The Office", or its American counterpart? Which version one prefers is a telling sign.;)
Murphy101
and dh is yapping that he doesn't want me to waste netflix on this silly show and to see if hulu has it. I saw the first and second episode and all I remember is thinking "what the heck is a polar bear there for?!" and then I think I gave birth to somebody and missed a lot of stuff...:D so this better be good... oh and my dh and I never missed an episode of ER! It started the year we were married and was playing in the delivery room when I had two of my son. What were they thinking being born a thursday?:D
prairiegirl
I told myself that I was never going to watch LOST. Why would I watch a show about people on a deserted island. Btdt with Gilligan. sigh I caved in January, though, and bought all of the seasons on DVD. I am in the middle of Season 2. I am so hooked! I love this show! The only other show that I feel equally passionate about is 24. Life is good. ;)
dhudson
I'm with SWB, I love "Firefly" but only watch "Lost" because my dh does. I do love "Chuck" and the new one' "Castle" that has Nathan Fillion who is also in "Firefly".
