Sparrows-Song
What's the difference b/t SOS's Spanish I and II, vs. SOS's Elementary and Secondary Spanish? I'm looking to order and can't find a difference listed in the catalog! Thanks for your help!
Jean in Wisc
What's the difference b/t SOS's Spanish I and II, vs. SOS's Elementary and Secondary Spanish? I'm looking to order and can't find a difference listed in the catalog! Thanks for your help! Elementary/Secondary, from what I can tell, are based on Power Glide. If they are anything like the Power Glide books, I could not recommend them. Spanish I and II are full credit high school Spanish classes. Google the boards and you will find a lot about them. Mandy in TN
What's the difference b/t SOS's Spanish I and II, vs. SOS's Elementary and Secondary Spanish? I'm looking to order and can't find a difference listed in the catalog! Thanks for your help! I called AO and they said that SOS Secondary Spanish is an intro to Spanish for high schoolers who have had no exposure to Spanish and should be used prior to SOS Spanish 1. Sparrows-Song
Thank you very much! Has anyone here used the Secondary Spanish before beginning SOS 1, or is it possible to go straight into SOS 1 without any prior Spanish knowledge? ((I know what they are saying, just wondering if it's really needed or not.))
Kendall
I'm wondering the same thing. I was planning on using Spanish 1 without any previous background in Spanish. I think others have used it without using any other Spanish program first, but I don't know for sure.
Jean in Wisc
I'm wondering the same thing. I was planning on using Spanish 1 without any previous background in Spanish. I think others have used it without using any other Spanish program first, but I don't know for sure. The 1st few lessons of Spanish I take a little effort to get into if the student has had no Spanish at all and especially if there is no one who knows a little Spanish to help them through it. It depends a bit, in my opinion, on the child. If he has studied another language (i.e. Latin) he is at an advantage. If he is willing to push through the material and figure it out (a bit of deductive reasoning), he can do so without Secondary Spanish. One of my kids just pushed through it without flinching...the 2nd one complained and complained that it "didn't make sense"...but then that is a basic personality difference :). Both of them finally got their feet on the ground and took of running without doing Secondary Spanish. If you have the time and want to take it a little easier, you could try Secondary Spanish. I've never seen it, so I don't have any idea of how much of a difference it might make in getting SPI off to an easier start. I'm not planning to use it...but if I had it, I'd take a look at it and consider it. FWIW, Jean
xxxxxxxx
http://www.studyspanish.com/ http://www.123teachme.com/ I don't know if this will be better but right now this is our plan.......to work on these free sites for a while before we start SOS 1. Would love your opinion Jean!

Would love your opinion Jean! I just glanced at them quickly, but it seems as though they would give a child an idea of how the Spanish language works before jumping into a more structured program. If a child is tight on time, I'd just plow into the SOS and do it, but looking through these websites and studying them probably would be similar to using the Prima Latina prior to Latina Christiana--exposure to the language. It would not hurt to try it! Jean
