S in Canada
Does anyone know of any lessons or curriculum that help teach manners perhaps with role-playing etc. I would love something online for free but not worried about having to purchase a book or curriculum. Mostly looking for things geared towards 8years and up dealing with attitudes and speaking nicely....that sort of thing. TIA
myfatherslily
I downloaded the Goops recently. They are cute. I have my smaller children in mind though, so I have no idea what 8+ would think:) Goops and How to Be Them More Goops and How Not to Be Them
4kiddies
Not really a curriculum but I would recommend you check out the book "Everyday Graces" by Karen Santorum. HTH!
Suzanne115
A Beka Health includes manners. I know they include a section on manners for K, 1, and 2, but I'm not sure about their higher levels. Suzanne
kellycbr
I thought it would be much easier to raise polite kiddos. It appears they're polite most of the time when I'm not around. However, it still stresses me to hear my DS8 burp at the table, and watch DD5 and DH just laugh. It seems to be fine to DH until we're out with other people and family, and then seeing his DC behave this way is suddenly unacceptable. And yes, my DD can burp and fart on command just like DH and DS. :leaving: Somehow when my parents used the example" If you ever dine with the Queen, you'll know how to behave/use your knife and fork/eat properly" always worked in our family. I've tried the same thing, even inserting "The Obamas", but it didn't give the results I wanted. Until..... I put a jar on the table and announced I would be charging $1 for every burp and fart. They could go to the bathroom if they needed to do it. It cost the kids $1 each, and they decided they didn't like losing their money. We've been a fairly polite family since New Years. We're still waiting for DH to pay up $9!:D Kelly
whitestavern
Manners Made Easy is very reasonable. I used it with DD8 and DS6. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Manners-Made-Easy-Workbook-Student/dp/0805437703/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238613437&sr=8-2 It does have biblical passages, but I was looking for something secular and it worked fine for me. homeschooltoone
I've bought Manners Made Easy at Rainbow Resource. It's pretty easy to use.
Ellie
I can't think of anything that is as effective as on-going parental instruction and correction. Miss Manners says it takes 18 years of constant nagging to rear a well-mannered adult.:D
