Ann@thebeach
Anyone with experiences with both? Is one better than the other? I'm looking at Beginning Word Roots but can't seem to find reviews. English from the Roots Up seems to get good reviews but seems like it's just black white pages. Thanks for any info Ann
usetoschool
I assume you mean Word Roots by Critical Thinking Books. It is a workbook format that gives you a box with prefixes, roots, and suffixes and then exercises putting the words together and figuring out the meanings, filling in the blanks in sentences etc. English from the Roots Up is more of a flash card kind of program where a latin or greek root is taught, along with the meaning and some words that use that root. You can either buy the cards or the book, both have the same information, with a few teaching tips that don't amount to much in the book. We used the book and had the kids make thier own cards. We use the EFTRU first just to familiarize them with basic roots and then Word Roots and Vocabulary from Classical Roots.
Ann@thebeach
Yes, that's the Word Roots I was referring to. Thanks for the descriptions, I didn't realize that Word Roots was a workbook type program.
