Karen FL
I may be teaching a nursing class at a local university this summer. Our Vista operating system at home did not come with Powerpoint and I will need to use this program. What version would I purchase? I'm googling Power Point and the software seems to be $200. It seems that there is a professional version that is even more money. Would the student version be sufficient? Does that sound right? I was hoping not to have to spend so much. TIA! Sandy in Indy
Powerpoint is usually bundled as part of Microsoft Office. If you are a student and have an email addy that ends in .edu, you can purchase Office 2007 for $60. In any case, you should be able to purchase a discounted copy as an educator. I wouldn't purchase anything until I knew what deal the university can offer--I know one of the local colleges in Indy has a deal with Microsoft and they offer all Microsoft programs for $25/each! Karen FL
This is helpful to know. I'm not a student anywhere. Perhaps I can purchase a copy as an educator after I'm hired to teach. Unfortunately, our Vista OS came with Open Office.Org.
Lizzie in Ma
I have been using it for some time now and I love it. Open Office from the website OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

G5052
I'm a state CC professor, and I can get all kinds of free and reduced software through work. We have saved hundreds, making my piddly salary stretch a bit. The state system has negotiated really good deals for both students and staff. I've played with Open Office here and there, and it depends on how much you plan to do. If this is probably a one-time gig and you're just doing basic slides, you'll probably be fine. I tend to do a lot more with Powerpoint than some, and had serious compatibility issues that forced me back to regular Powerpoint 2007.
