Kfamily
Week 1 suggests setting up a vocabulary notebook although there are pages set up for this in the workbook. I would like to move dd in 6th through Homer A as quickly as possible and would like to cut out any unnecessary work. The CW forum suggested we could finish Homer A in roughly 16 weeks if we work 5 days a week. We school year round so this would line us up to finishing Homer A before starting 7th. For those of you who have finished Homer A, do you have any advice for keeping the work load as trimmed as possible? I don't want to short-change dd (I put her in Homer A instead of Older Beginners because she needs to go down this road) but I don't want to waste time either. Do you think the extra vocabulary notebook is necessary? We will be doing Harvey's Elem. Grammar and keeping the grammar notebook. Dd already has a nice copybook so I think we will just add to that. I read through the books and made notes of several pages I thought would make things more manageable if I copied them. Are there any specific charts or pages you would recommend? Any other tips or advice is most welcome!!:D Thank you so much!!
HiddenJewel
We are using Older Beginner, but my understanding was that the vocab notebook was an alternative instead of using the workbook pages, not doing both. I cut out exercises that I KNOW that my dd has down. No use beating a dead horse.

HiddenJewel
Thank you, HiddenJewel! Any more tips or advice? I just have dd do one set of the six sentence shuffle each week. We don't do the copywork or dictation as she is past that need.
amyco
I just started Homer A with my 5th grader and didn't start a vocab notebook. However, I think we will do it when we get to the skill level about advanced word study. Also then I am going to axe her previous spelling program (Spelling Workout), and not do another vocab program. I feel like such a WTM rebel doing this, but I'm going to take a leap of faith! And can I just say I love the idea of them copying quotes with the vocab words instead of making up their own sentences? Brilliant and beautiful way to shift that paradigm.
