steppingstonemomma
How have you combined these two programs, or do you just keep them separate? If you keep them separate, do you make your kids do additional writing in history so they have writing across the subjects or just do the history response pages? If you use one of the IEW products, would you tell me which one (SWI or theme based...)? I'll have a UG/D, and 2 UG's....
steppingstonemomma
Oh, please! I really need help! Could someone answer!LOL
Zee
O.k., you sounded pitiful, so I had to respond. :-P I don't know if I can help, but I do TOG and IEW. I keep them seperate. I have a Dialectic level son. We have been doing SWI-B and sometimes I do take something for history and swap out the model for the SWI lesson. This has helped us to integrate writing across the curriculum. It's not on a regular basis, but I do it as it all fits in. We have been on a long break from IEW (doing some other writing assignments), but I hope to get back to it soon. Currently, we are working on a research report that I intend to add to a display board (which was an assignment in TOG). We plan to apply some of IEW's stylistic techniques to the report. So, you can see there isn't a method to my madness, but I'm dipping in and out of these curriculum's. We try to do the R&S assignments as they come up in the grammar book, also. HTH and that you get lots of replies. :)
steppingstonemomma
THANK YOU!!! It does help hearing how someone else is doing it. I'm just at the beginning stages of thinking about how to implement this, but maybe it'll be better if I don't try to coordinate it so much. Just go with what we need at the time.... hmmmm.... thank you again.... and yes, I was going for the pitiful whining sound! LOL! It worked! Larissa
I kept them separate by having the kids do the SWIs (I had all 3: A, B and C). When we did year 1, I used the Ancient History-based guide and I used the Bible-based guide for year 2. Then I used the US guides for years 3 and 4. They didn't match up exactly, but it worked out pretty well. Larissa in NJ

Larissa in NJ Larissa, Did you have your children do the SWI class and then add in work from the theme-based books? I was considering this and wondering if that would work. I am still tossing around writing curricula...I am torn between IEW and CW. Right when I think I have my mind made up, I flounder...:tongue_smilie:
Janis in DE
I use TOG & IEW. We used the Ancient History Theme lessons this year with Year 1 of TOG. They worked great. We would take some time off from IEW inorder to catch up in time with TOG. This gave us a break from writing and time to add in some other things. I will probably use the Middle Ages Lessons next year. I plan to weave in some of TOG writing when we have time depending upon how many lessons are in the IEW. FordFamily
My girls are in a coop that uses the IEW and they use the source text that goes along with our time period. They went through Ancients and Middle Ages. It has worked well. I also like to use the TOG Writing Strands to read through to give me and them additional help.
