Alana in Canada
I know a tiny bit about how Folk and Fairy tales were collected by Perrault and the Grimm Brothers. But, I know really nothing about the literary qualities of the tales themselves. I think Tapestry does something with them, doesn't it? Can anyone help me out here? I'm beginning to think this may be a fantastic way to ease us into formal "literature" study. Thanks.
Karen in CO
There is a VP guide to fairy tales. It is a one of their literature studies. It might be a good place for you to start. SurLaLune Fairy Tales has a collection of annotated tales and some good essays by people like Chesterton about the importance of fairy tales. Mommyfaithe
IEW also has a theme-based writing program with Fables, Myths and Fairy Tales. In the lessons, they do cover quite a bit about the literary structure and analysis of the stories. Faithe
Alana in Canada
That surlalune site is quite interesting--thnks fo that! I'm thinking maybe I'd better back up to the Greek Myths, first! I have a Jack Tripe book on request from the library, now, so we'll see how it goes.
