Hi,

I am making my plans for next year. We are currently using Abeka for LA and are thinking of switching next year to R&S. My dd will be in 2nd grade next year. Do I need to add a writing program? How do I know which writing program to add?

I would love any input! Writing is the one subject that I feel that I am lacking! I am tempted to hire someone to teach my daughter how to write at some point. :-) Is there a class I can take? Or is there one writing program that is better for people like me! :-)

We have come full circle after experimenting with additional writing curriculums. We are now using only Rod and Staff grades 4 and 6 along with additional writing as part of history, literature, and science. The boys are able to take what they are learning in R&S and apply it to the other writing they are doing. I really feel that it is very complete and clearly explains everything. Have you had a chance to look at the table of contents yet for the grade you are interested in?

I have not checked out the table of contents yet, but will do that! Thanks for your input!

THere isn't any writing assignments in the second grade book. I think they start in 3rd or 4th. At that age you just need narration and copy-work as outlined in TWTM.

In second grade, R&S teaches how to write complete sentences, descriptions, paragraphs, and poetry. The writing lessons are not separated out as they are in other grade levels, but they are in there.
